  • First British settlement in America

    First British settlement in America
    Captain John Smith and other English settlers arrive at Jamestown, Virginia. This is the first British colonization in America.
  • Treaty of Paris ends French and Indian War

    The Treaty of Paris of 1763 ends the war between Great Britain and France. Due to the treaty, France had to give up all their territories in North America to Great Britain.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763 did not allow English colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. Any English settlers must move back east because the land west was preserved for the Indians.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    British soldiers shot and killed people after hearing a gunfire. The Patriots used the Boston Massacre as propaganda to promote independence from Britain.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Three ships carrying tea arrive in Boston Harbor and the colonists demand to return the tea back to England. Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty then dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor. This lead America and Britain closer to war.
  • Bunker Hill (JQA)

    Bunker Hill (JQA)
    Bunker Hill was the first battle of the Revolutionary War. Even though the colonists lost, the battle gave them confidence due to the extreme casualties they did to the British army. Seven-year-old John Quincy Adams witnessed soldiers "tripping over lifeless bodies, sprawling to the ground into pools of blood and torn flesh..." (Unger, 15).
  • John Adams and his son go to Paris

    On April 4, 1779, John Adams takes his son John Quincy Adams with him to Paris. Adams wrote " my little son...has sustained this long journey of nearly 500 miles at the rate of an hundred miles a day with the utmost firmness, as he did our fatiguing and dangerous voyage" (Unger, 33). This shows that Adams exposes his son to the real world to him knowledge and wisdom about politics.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Shay's Rebellion
    Daniel Shay lead armed American farmers to protest against high taxes and debt. This rebellion showed the weakness of the Articles of Confederation which caused the politicians to reform the government. The Articles of Confederation was put to an end and replaced by the Constitution.
  • The French Revolution

    The French Revolution
    The French Revolution started due to the bankruptcy of the King. This financial crisis was due to to the two wars the French participated in which was the Seven Years War and the American Revolutionary War.
  • Britain goes to war with France

    Four years after the French Revolution had started, Britain goes to war with France because they had took over Belgian lands and had threatened the British. France was conquering territories in Europe which caused them to go to war with Great Britain, Austria, and other monarchies.
  • Marie Antoinette gets executed

    Marie Antoinette gets executed
    Marie Antoinette was the last queen before the French Revolution and then the French abolished monarchy on September 21, 1792. Marie Antoinette was executed because she was convicted of high treason on October 14, 1793.
  • Whiskey Rebellion

    The Whiskey Rebellion was a protest against tax on whiskey. This was the first tax on a domestic product. The rebellion challenged the new American government and it showed the government had the right to levy taxes.
  • Marries Louisa Catherine Johnson (JQA)

    Marries Louisa Catherine Johnson (JQA)
    Louisa Catherine Johnson was the daughter of an American diplomat. She was "musically talented, elegant in dress, bearing, and manners, she was quiet and respectful in the presence of gentlemen and a lively conversationalist when appropriate" (Unger, 99). She caught John Quincy Adam's eye and he married her on July 26, 1797.
  • Birth of John Adams II (JQA)

    John Quincy Adam's second son was born on April 12, 1801. In the same year, he was also elected to U.S. Senate.
  • Britain abolishes slave trade

    Britain abolishes slave trade
    The abolitionists concentrated on having the Parliament ban the slave trade because they believe it has a better chance of succeeding than banning slavery itself. They also believe that with slave trade abolished, this will cause slavery itself to slowly go away.
  • Birth of Charles Francis (JQA)

    John Quincy Adam's third son was born in August 18, 1807. Between 1804-1808, Adams had also abandoned the Federalist Party and they forced him to resign from Senate.
  • Battle of Waterloo

    This battle takes place in Waterloo, Belgium in 1815. The British and Prussians under Duke of Wellington finally beat the French under Napoleon Bonaparte.
  • John Quincy Adams becomes President (JQA)

    John Quincy Adams becomes President (JQA)
    John Quincy Adams becomes the 6th president of the United States. He only served one term but Adams also served as a diplomat, a Senator, and member of the House of Representative.
  • Andrew Jackson becomes President

    Andrew Jackson becomes the 7th President of the United States against John Quincy Adams. He promoted Jacksonian Democracy which was the political movement that supported the common man.
  • Death of John Quincy Adams (JQA)

    John Quincy Adams died in February 23, 1948 from a stroke. Adams died in the Capitol building where he spent most of his life.
  • Death of Louisa Adams (JQA)

    Louisa Catherine Adams died of a heart attack at the age of 77. Her death was the first time both houses in the government mourned the death of a woman.
