  • Decembrist Revolt

    A group of army officers led an uprising after Alexander 1 died. It was supressed by Nicholas 1, the new czar.
  • Alexander 2 inherits the throne.

    Alexander agreed to reforms of setting slaves free. He set up local governments called zemstvos. He also encouraged industry growth in Russia but relies entirely on agriculture.
  • Alexander 2's assassination

    Terrorists hurled two bombs at Alexander's carriage. One struck down several gaurds. The second killed Alexander 2.
  • Alexander 3 inherits the throne.

    After his fathers assassination, Alexander 3 inherited the throne. He launced a program called Russification. Russification aimed at suppressing the culture of non russian peoples within the empire official pogroms or violent mob attacks on Jews.
  • Nicholas 2

    Nicholas 2 was Alexander 3's son. Count Serge Witte was Nicholas's finance minister. Witte reccomended building a railroad. Eventually the trans-siberian railroad was built with the help of France's loans. The railroad linked European Russia to the Pacific ocean.
  • At War with Japan

    War was declared between Russia and Japan on 1904. It didn't last long ending in Russia's defeat.
  • Bloody Sunday

    A priest organized a march towards the Czar. The Czar feared what they were planning on doing to him so he ordered troops to kill them all. Bloody Sunday killed the people's faith and trust in the czar.
  • Revolution of 1905

    After Bloody Sunday people all over Russia started revolting. Everything was in chaos. The Czar preseted a document called the october manifesto. It stated "Freedom of person, conscience, speech,assembly, and union." The czar also made a duma. A duma is an elected national legislature who approves or dissaproves laws set by the czar.
  • Peter Stalypin

    On 1906 Peter became prime minister. He restored order back into Russia. Also introduced moderate land farms.

    On 1911 Peter was assassinated.
  • Vladimir Ulyanov

    He used an alias or false name- Lenin. On 1917 he would take power in a revolution that transformed Russia.
