The compromise made California enter the United States as a free state while Utah and New Mexico are addmitted as slave states, banned slavery near the capilol (DC), and passed the fugitive save laws at this time. -

A story that called for the end of slavery written by Harriet Beecher Stowe published in 1852.

This was when the African American slave Dred Scott tried to sue for his freedomin court.
This event is important because the supreme court ruled that African-Americans were not U.S. citizens and could not sue and that slaves were like property. -

The election for senator of Illinois in 1858 between Aberham Lincoln and Stephen Douglass.
Even though Lincoln lost, this election was important because it made Lincoln famouse for his speeches and beliefs such as that slavery was wrong, but legal, and, yeah. -

A revolt in Virginia to try to end slavery led by abolitionist John Brown.
Although his plan did not succeed, Brown siezed the federal arsenal but was captured and executedfor bieng guilty of murder. -

The presidential election between Democrats and newly formed Republican party.
This was important because Lincoln wins the election and leads to southern states seceding from the United States which feared that lincoln would ban slavery. The seceded states formes the Confederate States of America known as the Confederacy although the constitution supported states rights and protected slavery. -
Fort Sumpter
A Battle that occured at Fort Sumpter between The Union and the Confederacy
This batle was important because it was the the starting point of the American Civil War. The South was who fired the first shots of the civil war and the union had to surrender.
