    John Dewy was born in Burlington, Vermont.

    Dewy was progressive with education. He believed in learning through experience. He shared that students should learn with interactions in the present. He still acknowledged the value of learning from the past as well. Dewy lectured all over the world about education reform and opened schools to allow for the study of his theories to develop them.

    Dewy wrote The Reflex Arc Concept in Psychology to combat the reflex arc methodology. At the time the reflex arc was only accounting for events that took place between a passive stimulus to generate a response. The problem was we do not perceive stimuli passively.

    Dewy developed the concept of experience over the course of his career.
