Fierce battles were fought between pro and anti-slavery people to determine weather Kansas would become a slave state or a free state. These battles were known as Bleeding Kansas, and John Brown had caused insurrection in a few of them.

    John Brown seeks vengeance after the inhabitants of Lawrence did not choose to fight back in a pro-slaver attack. He decided to "fight fire with fire" A few days after the incident at Lawrence, John brown and seven others calling themselves as "The Army of The North" traveled into a nearby town of Potawatomi Creek to storm into defenseless people's houses, take their belongings and kill them.

    Durring John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry, Colonel Robert E. Lee lead the U.S Marines to capture him. Lee was successful in bringing John Brown to Kansas's prison, later to be hanged for his "crimes".
