    Network between Harvard, MIT, and BBN (the company that created the interface message projector computers used to connect to the network) in 1970 was created.
  • Email was first developed

    Developed by Ray Tomlinson, who also made the decision to use the @ symbol to separate the user name from the computer name (which later became the domain name).

    The precursor to World of Warcraft and Second Life was developed in 1979, and was called MUD(short for MultiUser Dungeon). MUDs were entirely text-based virtual worlds, combining elements of role-playing games, interactive, fiction and online chat.

    The first emoticon was used. While many people credit Kevin MacKenzie with the invention of the emoticon in 1979, it was Scott Fahlman in 1982 who proposed using :-) after a joke, rather than the original -) proposed by MacKenzie.

The domain name system was important in that it made addresses on the internet more human-friendly compared to its numerical IP address counterparts. DNS servers allowed Internet users to type in an easy to remember domain name and then converted it to the IP address automatically.

    A 22 year old Canadian engineer sat down, and used his phone to send a message to Richard Jarvis. The message was "Merry Christmas". Ever since, we can not stop texting. It eventually beat out email and some texting even requires internet access nowadays.

    The first ever online gaming console is known as the Sega Dreamcast, which was created by the company known as Sega. The Dreamcast came with a modem, which gave the players the ability to play against or with other players online. This created an enormous breakthrough in online gaming.

In 2014, League of Legends had 27 million active daily players, and they had 67 million active monthly players.

    Twitch was created from Twitch International, a company that was trying to make a website to rival another game streaming website. Twitch quickly blew up and became the main hub for random streams and eSports competitions, allowing anyone around the world to watch.
