  • Compromise of 1850

    Was a package that contained 5 bills and they discussed slavery in the newly acquired mexican territories.

  • Publication of Uncle Tom's Cabin

    A book written to promote anti-slavery. Really heated up the civil war.

  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Introduced new territories to the US, as well as the first look at popular sovereignty. The peole were allowed to choose whether slavery was allowed in the territory

  • Brooks/Sumner Affair (Violence in congress)

    Congressman preston brooks, who was pro-slavey, attacked senator charles sumner in the middle of thesenate.

  • Dred Scoot Decision

    Mr.Scott protested that he was free man becuase he lived in a free state, therfore when he returned to a slave state he shouldn't have been a slave, but the court declared him a slave.

  • John Brown's Raid

    Was an attempt to raid the US federal armory, but failed and was hung.

    Was a four way election for the presidency of the united states.
