    Discription; With national relations angered by the debate over the Wilmot Proviso, senators Henry Clay and Stephen Douglas created the Compromise of 1850. The compromise prevented further territorial expansion of slavery while strengthening the Fugitive Slave Act. Cause of Civil War; California although below the 36 30 parellel was admited as a free state.

    Discription; Harriet Beecher Stowe’s fictional book of slave life was a nation wide. Northerners felt as if their eyes had been opened to the horrors of slavery, while Southerners were angered by the book. Cause of civil war; The book inraged northerns about the horrors of slavery and the south was angered what they were doing was unvailed. The book seperated the nation between anti and pro slavey.

Cause: This event sparked the civil war because it was the firstn time americans killed eachother over slavery in mass amounts.

    Dred Scott was a Virginia slave who tried to sue for his freedom in court. The case eventually rose to the level of the Supreme Court, where the justices found that, as a slave, Dred Scott was a piece of property that had none of the legal rights or recognitions afforded to a human being. Cause: This court case angerd northerners because it pritty much said that all 50 states allowed slavery.

    n mid-October of 1859, the abolitionist organized a small band of white allies and free blacks and raided a government arsenal in Harpers Ferry, Virginia. He hoped to seize weapons and distribute them to Southern slaves in order to spark a wracking series of slave uprisings.

    When the Republican Abraham Lincoln won the 1860 presidential election, Southern fears that the Republicans would abolish slavery reached a new peak. Lincoln was a formidable opponent of the expansion of slavery but said he would not interfere with it. Cause: Southerners felt they had lost total hope of pro slavery with the election of Abraham Lincon.

    On April 10, 1861, knowing that resupplies were on their way from the North Confederate forces in Charleston demanded the fort’s surrender. The fort’s commander, Major Robert Anderson, refused. On April 12, the Confederates opened fire with cannons. At 2:30 p.m. the following day, Major Anderson surrendered. Cause: This battle caused the civil war because it was th efirst real blood shed between the north and south.
