Jackson and the Bank | 1816 - 1840

  • Bank Charter Approved

    James Madison approved a bill that would create the Second Bank of America after Hamilton's first bank failed in 1811. The goal of the bank was to make it easier for the Federal Government to handle funds.
  • Invasion of Florida

    During his time as a General in the Army, Andrew Jackson invades Spanish Florida and experiences criticism because of it. Even though he was exonerated, many still believed that Jackson used to invasion to hide land speculation.
  • Democratic-Republicans

    After Jackson is nominated as a presidential candidate, a different party was created that supported a stronger government. Other names the Democratic-Republicans would be known as were the "Democrats" and "Jackson's Party".
  • Jackson Presidency

    Jackson is elected president, many people are happy about this with 56% of voters choosing him in the election. John C. Calhoun was chosen as vice president.
  • Control over the cabinet

    Jackson takes control of his presidential cabinet, many of them resign and Jackson quickly appoints new people.
  • Bank Bill Vetoed

    Though the bill passes both House and Senate, the bill for the Second Nation Bank was vetoed by Andrew Jackson.
