The German Confederation was a loose associatin of 39 German states in central Europe created by the Congress of Vienna to cordinate the economy of seperate german speaking countries and to replace the Holy Roman Empire. -

Victor Emmanuel II
Victor Emmanuel II came king of Sardinia-Piedmont in 1849. He retaines his nations liberal constitution. He also fully supported Cavour and his Policies. Emmanuel became kingof Italy in 1861. -
Cavour
Cavour was appointed Prime Minister of Sardinia-Piedmont in 1852. He Strengthened Italy by promoting industry, building railroads, improving agriculture, fostering education, and enlarging the army. -
Giuseppe Garibaldi captures Sicily
Garibaldi was secretly forming a rebellion in southern italy and they were known as the red shirts. They were a small army and they did this to help unify Italy. -
Otto von Bismarck becomes Prime Minister
Wilhelm I succeeded Fredrick Willam to the trone. Wilhelm then chose Otto von Bismarck to be his prime minister in 1862. -
7 Weeks War
The 7 weeks war was fought between Prussia and Autria. Italy had joined Prussia and Prussia came out vicotorious over Austria. The war officially ended on August 23, 1866. -
Roem becomes capital
France withdrew its troops protecting the pope in rome during the Franco-Prussian War. Italian forces occupied the City then taking over Rome and making it the Capital of Italy -
Franco-Prussian War
Bismack was a master of decpetion. He made it seem as though the French ambassator insulted the Prussian King causeing fance to declare war. Immediatley after the war was declared Prussian troops pured in to northern france. On January 18, 1871 the Prussian's captured Versallies and effectivley ended the war. This was the final stage of German unification. -
Italy takes over Papal states
After the victory the City of Rome came under control of Italy. Soon after Rome became the capital of the united kingdom of Italy. The Pope continued to govern Vatican City.
