William Levenson predicted that portable radio receivers would be as common as blackboards, and he was correct. In 1923, Haaren High School in New York City was the first public school to have a radio in the classroom. The radio programs lasted about 30-60 minutes and were broadcasted a few times a week. By 1940 majority of schools had radio receivers, but by the end of 1940 televisions were taking over.
