INDUSTRIAL REVOLOUTION - 1750 to 1918

  • James Cook makes his first landing in Botany Bay

    On the 29th of April James Cook makes his first landing in Botany Bay. The British hope to use the land as a Penal colony to compensate for overcrowding of prisons in Britain. These palns lead to the Europian Colonization of Australia which will result in the Federation of Australia in 1901.
  • James Watt's designs more efficient Steam Engine

    In 1775 James Watt revoloutionised the world by creating a steam engine that could be used to do more than just pump water and ran on just a fraction of the power.
  • Declaration of Independence signed by Congress

    After the turmoil suffered by the American colonies at the hands of the BritishTaxes, a Congress was formed and a document was drafted that outlined America's Independence from Britain.
  • Captain Cook sails into Botany Bay

    Captain Cook sails into Botany Bay to establish a penal colony in New South Wales which would later become the Capital city of Sydney.
  • The start of The French Revoloution

    The French Revoloution started on the 14th of July when a French mob stormed the ancient prison Bastille and openly denied the Aristocracies right to rule over them.
  • Forming of a French Republic

    In 1792 Phillip the 16th was forced to sign a document proclaiming equality for all men and their unalienable rights.
    The following year he was executed.
  • Alessandro Volta invents the first battery

    In 1791 Alessandro Volta publishes a paper on how moisture can be transmitted through moisture into two pieces of metal. Later in 1800 he builds the first battery called the voltaic stack.
  • Napoleon becomes Emporer

    In 1804. Napoleon Bonaparte becomes the first Emporer of France in the later stages of the French Revoloution. He reigned from 1804-1815 until he was exiled to the island of St. Helena by the British.
  • The Death of Napoleon

    In 1821 after being imprisoned on the Island of St. Helena for six years he died after suffering from stomach cancer. In 1840 his remains were brought to France.
  • The First Public Railway

    In 1825 George Stephenson builds the public railway running between Stockton and Darlington. This is the first of it's kind in the world.
  • The Australian Gold Rush

    In 1844 Edward Hargraves claims the first discovery of payable gold in NSW. The discovery of gold 8 months later in Victoria causes a gold rush that affects the world and causes hundreds of thousands to imigrate to Australia. This sudden influx of people causes Australia's population to quadtruple from 430,000 to 1.7 million
  • The Irish Potato Famine Begins

    In 1846 a famine strikes Ireland destroying many potato crops causing nationwide starvation. Because of this, many people immigrate to America and Australia.
  • Invention of the Telephone

    In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell invented andd later patented the world's first telephone. This invention revoloutionised commuunication and allowed people to communicate over long distances.
  • Thomas Alva Edison invents 1st Electro Light

    In 1879 Thomas Alva Edison, the creator of the motion picture camera, invented the world's firstincadescent electric light which revoloutionised the world as it made the candle obslete in many peoples homes.
  • The Opening of The Brooklyn Bridge

    In 1883 The Brooklyn Bridge was opened and became the 8th wonder of the world. It was the longest suspension bridge in the world for 20 years until 1903. It measured a total of 1825 metres and had a width of 26 metres.
  • Federation of Australia

    The Federation of Australia was the process in which the 6 seperate states of Australia were formed into the Commonwealth of Australia.
  • Wilbur and Orville Wright build and fly the world's first plane.

    Wilbur and Orville Wright build and fly the world's first heavier than air, motor driven airoplane. The invention of the airoplane revoloutionised the world and the Industrial Revoloution as it allowed people to cross long distance easily and allowed transportation of goods to remote regions as well as revoloutionising warfare.
  • Titanic's Maiden Voyage

    In 1912 the world's largest steam ship sets sail on it's Maiden Voyage. It is said to be "Unsinkable". Just before midnight, The Tiitanic hits an Iceberg in the Atlantic and after several hours it snaps into two pieces and sinks to the bottom of the sea. Less than a third survived and only six survivors were pulled from the ocean alive when the rescue boats arrived.
  • World War 1 starts

    In 1914, the assasination of The Austrian Emporerer's son Franz Ferdinand by Serbian Bosnians leads to Austria invading Serbia which results in Russia relaiating against Austria which causes Germany to engage hostilities with Russia.
    After the attack on Russia, France declares war on Germany and the German army marches through Belgium to attack France. With Belgium threatened Britain sees fit to join the war. The war involved over 20 countries and resulted in the deaths of 50,000 Australians.
  • World War 1 ends with the defeat of the Axis

    In 1918 Germany surrendered to the Allied forces after fighting a war across Africa and Europe for 4 years.
