    At Seneca Falls, New York, 300 women and men sign the Declaration of Sentiments, a plea for the end of discrimination against women.

    Henry David Thoreau publishes Walden
  • Petition for Universal suffrage

    It was part of the first nation drive to focus on women's voting rights. The petition asks for an amendment to the constitution that prohibits several states from disfranchising any citizens on grounds of their gender.
