Brian Murphy's Westward Expansion Timeline
Brian Murphy's Journey to America (from Ireland) to the West to get land. -
Arriving at Ellis Island
My name is Brian Murphy and I finally have a chance to go to America. The oppurtunities in America are a lot better than the ones in Ireland. Ireland has a bad economy and took my land from me, so I hope to get land in America. I loaded my things into the boat. The possesions I brought were cloths and some things to sell to get off on the right foot in America. I have my ticket and I'm waiting for the arrival at Ellis Island. -
Arriving in America
Ellis Island was a hard place to be. I had to get a check up, to make sure I wasen't sick, and if I was they wouldn't send me to America. Luckily for me I wasen't sick, but my possesions were stolen while I was being checked upon. Getting on the boat with nothing I see the Eiffle Tower, which was a good sight as we arrived in a port in America. Finally, I got to step on American soil. -
Finally getting a Job
After arriving, I meet some nice people that were kind enough to let me stay in their household. They realized I had nothing, so they let me stay until I found a job. I got hired by a meat factory, and the pay was so low I could barely support myself! The working conditions were so hard it wasen't worth working for such a low pay, but I had to or I would be left on the streets! -
Moving West
After three long years of work, I barely have enough money to buy a wagon and horses. I am planning to go west because I came here to get land, and this is why I'm going west. I saw a add two days ago on the side of the town center and they said, "iving free land who could take care of it." I took that chance and left everything behind, buying a wagon, two horses and supplies. The items weren't cheap, so I myself getting extra money than other than my job. -
The Journey West
The journey west was hard by itself. I heard of people dying on the road, getting sick, but it was worth the risk. Along the journey, I lost a horse, so I had to work with one making the journey a lot longer. Also, one of the wheels broke on the wagon, making me stuck there for two days before another nice man and his family helped me, and gave me a spare wheel. In return, I gave them food. The journey west was a lot harder than I thought, food shorteges, wagon breaking and lost horses. -
Got Land
After two years of traveling, getting land and preping, I finally got my land. I plant normal Irelnad crops, and some American ones, from the natives too. I make a lot more money than what my job paided, which is almost the best part. I get visitors, but not many. I own about three acres, which is more than the land I had in Ireland. I also have livestock, and I hired a few workers around the farm to help me out.
