    Christopher Colombus was the first immigrant to the United States
  • Mexican-American War

    Lasted until 1848 with the U.S. victory over Mexico

  • Treaty of Guadalupe-Hildalgo

    The U.S. gains what is now Arizona, New Mexico, parts of Texas and California from Mexico
  • Period: to

    Mexican Revolution

    During this time thousands of Mexicans crossed over into the United States to escape the wars being fought in Mexico
  • Mounted Inspectors put in place along border

    The mounted inspectors were there to help limit the number of illegal aliens crossing the border from Mexico. It took from 1915 to 1916 to fully impliment them.
  • Immigration Act

  • Border Patrol Enforced

  • U.S. brings in roughly 5 million Mexican workers

    over a 22 year span the U.S. recruited about 5 million mexican workers to help build railroads and work farms because most of the U.S. workforce had been depleted.
  • The North American Free Trade Act

  • Illegal Immigrant Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act Revised

    allowed some illegal aliens to become residents
  • Border Security measures tighten

    After Sept. 11th the border security was increased all around the country and Mexico was a largely traveled border. It still is today.
  • The Fences were extended along U.S. Mexican border

  • SB 1070 Signed

    Jan Brewer signed SB1070 bill
  • Obama passes DACA

    DACA is a bill allowing some undocumented children to stay in the United States if they came as children.
