I had to go through immagration in order to cross the border to the United States. I had some difficulties crossing becuase of my lack of knowledge about the English language but after lying to the officer that my cousin was in the United States waiting to me to cross the officer let me through. Instead of using my normal name, Edelwiess Smitchka, I will now go my Lizzie here in the U.S.

After crossing the border I finally came to a newspaper office offering jobs to immagrants who could translate the articles and owned a typewriter. I am now feeling glad that I bought mine. After a few months I will finally have enough money to continue my journey Westward.

After realizing that to get the money to move west I would need money I sold my typewriter to the newpaper office for 25 whole dollars! I will prepare for my journey with this money. I wrote my first letter home back to Germany today. I greatly miss my family but I needed something new. That is why I have decided to come to United States.

After selling my typewriter for money for my journey west, i bought a horse to help me win the race for land I hear about at the local pubs around here. I have names her Leonie after my sister back home.

I won a good plot of land in the West, one with rolling green feilds and grass that comes to your waist. I am very happy with the land and will continue to earn money doing little jobs around the town to save up for farming supplies so I can fullfill my dream to become a farmer. During the race, a good friend of mine's horse was shot in the hip causing him to fly of the horse and fracture his leg.

It has been many years since I have won this land and finally I have raised enough money to become a farmer. Recently I have bought some livestock, chicken to be exact. I have also sold lots of the wheat that I harvest and become very rich. With all of this money I have decided to take up knitting and am currenlty also selling my creations.
