  • The Death of Achilles

    The Death of Achilles
    Achilles knew his death was near, for his mother had warned him. The Greek's had pushed the Trojan's back to the gates of Troy, there Paris was on the wall. He fired an arrow at Achilles and Apollo guided it to hit his foot, which is the one spot he could be wounded. Because when he was born his mother dipped him into the River of Styx in hopes to make him invulnerable, but she was careless and forgot his heel.
  • Reunited With Patroclus

    Reunited With Patroclus
    After Achilles death he is was burned on the funeral pyre. His bones were placed in the same urn that held those of his friend Patroclus. This is the Greeks way of having them reunite in the Underworld.

    The arms Thetis had brought him from Hephaesrus,it was decided in full assembly that the heroes that best deserved them were Ajax and Odysseus. A secret vote was then taken between the two, and Odysseus go the arms

    After Odyesseus receives the arms Ajax sees himself disgraced and in a fit of furious anger he determined to kill Agamemnon and Menelaus. Athena soon struck him with madness and he starts to kill many and many of people. Ajax then awakes from his madness and see's the mess he had made, he then drives his sword into himself. The Greeks would not burn his boy, they buried him. They held that a suicide should not be honored with a funeral pyre and urn-burial.
  • Stealing from Philoctetes

    Stealing from Philoctetes
    They sent Odysseus the master of all trickery to retrieve the bow and arrows from Philoctetes. Odysseus managed to steal the bow and arrows, but couldn't bring himself to leave Philoctetes on the island. Philoctetes came back to Troy with Odysseus, where he was heeled by physician.

    The Greeks learned there was a sacred image of Pallas Athena in the city of Troy. The city of Troy could not be taken when the Palladium, the image of Athena, was located in the city limits.
  • Prophet Helenus

    Prophet Helenus
    After Odysseus made him a prisoner, he told the Greeks that Troy would not fall until someone had fought against the Trojans with the bow and arrow of Hercules. These had been given when Hercules died to the prince Philoctetes, the man who had fired his funeral pyre and who later had joined the Greeks when they sailed to Troy. On the voyage the Greeks stopped at an island to offer a sacrifice and Philoctetes was bitten by a serpent, and the wound was bad enough they couldn't bring him along.

    After Philoctetes was healed he went cheerfully back to battle, where the first man he killed was Paris. While Paris fell he begged to be taken to Oenone, the nymph he was married to before Helen. He knew she had healing powers, but she refused to save him. When he had died she was depressed and went off to kill herself.
