  • Daniel Boone

    He was an American Pioneer, Explorer, Woodsman, and Frontiersman. He had 10 children two of which were successful. One of the first American folk heroes.
  • Wilderness Road

    Was used by settlers to achieve the extreme southwest. Was the best and nearly only route to reach Kentucky. Daniel Boone was the first to blaze this trail.
  • Treaty of Paris 1783

    Signed upon September 3rd 1783 this ended the American Revolutionary War. The treaty gave the US Extremely generous land. It states that the US is a free country.

    Stephen F. Austin

    The main contributor who brought people to settle Texas. He had a lot of money and his wealth attracted those who he could get to come to Texas. Colloquially referred to as the "father of Texas".
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Land deal between the US & France. The US acquired approx. 827,000 square miles of land. This Was purchased by Thomas Jefferson For 15 Million Dollars.
  • Lewis And Clark

    Sent By Thomas Jefferson after a large purchase. Their job to explore the new territory. A young Indian saved their lives numerous times.
  • Zebulon Pike

    Took a more southerly route after being told to survey the land. He was an explorer and general before being commissioned as an explorer. He explored from 1805-1806.
  • Erie Canal

    A Canal built in New York that boosted trade. First proposed in 1780, then again in 1807 when it was funded. As it was a government job construction didn't start till 1817.

    Led the trails into the west as they trapped beaver. Many thought them to encase the American spirit. The trails they made were used mostly by settlers.

    Jack of all trades who made money doing anything. He set out to explore the new territory & fought many creatures. He was also mauled by a bear at one point and was killed by Natives.

    Rendezvous

    Where the mountain men gathered yearly. It's purpose was to trade fur and pelts in exchange for other items. the rendezvous grew yearly as more mountain men were in the area.
  • President Andrew Jackson

    Was a tyrannical overlord who wished harm upon the Indians while lacking the basic understanding to be kind to them. He ignored the views of others in the government and would stop at no end to accomplish what his insane mind craved for. The power of the executive order and the veto were used very liberally in this presidency.
  • Steam Powered Train

    Was meant to be transcontinental and much like the Erie Canal boosted trade. Was constructed by mostly immigrant labor. The first locomotive was invented in 1801.
  • Immigrants

    Built the transcontinental railroad by hand with back breaking work. Most of these were poor immigrants who required money and had no other jobs. They were treated poorly and weren't paid very well.
  • Indian Removal Act

    The Indian Removal Act was enacted by Andrew Jackson and was legally not supposed to happen. Andrew Jackson went against the exact orders of another branch which had domain in this field and forced his tyrannical views to be made. Many soldiers were appalled at the trail of tears.
  • Texas Revolution

    The Texas revolution was caused by differing opinions between the Mexican government. The population of Americans out numbered the Mexicans Ten-One. Most people didn't want to live within Mexico thus they revolted.
  • The Alamo

    Most famous for 'remember the Alamo'. The Battle of the Alamo was when hundreds were slaughtered by the Mexican garrison. They were killed in horrific ways and the spite from Americans was set upon Mexico.
  • Texas Independance

    March 2nd is the national Mexican independence day. On this day 1836 many Texas officials signed a document declaring Independence. This was declared after the long fought after the Texas Revolution.
  • Trail Of Tears

    The path that the Indians were forced to take. This was caused by Andrew Jackson who decided that they should leave in order to make room for the growing Americans. Many soldiers were appalled at the conditions and what America had done to these people.
  • Mexican American War

    Was caused by a border dispute between the US and Mexico. We wished to acquire land from Mexico but no good reason was had thus we provoked them and fought. This war ended in Mexican Cession.
  • Mexican Cession

    The Mexican Cession was caused by the Mexican American war. This was when Mexico gave a large deed of land to America as to appease their thirst for blood. This gave Americans 529,000 square miles.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    This ended the Mexican American War. This treaty called for the US to pay 15 Million for the claims of land that they were taking. The senate was split weather or not to ratify this document.
  • California Gold Rush

    California had discovered gold and many rushed to get it. One man could be come so rich in a day that he had no need to work for most of the rest of his life. Many wished to be this man and so they rushed as fast as they could to go and get gold but as they got there it was gone.
  • Forty Niners

    The forty niners were miners who sought to make their fortune off of gold and alike. They were given this name as when the news traveled in 1846 about gold being discovered in California many fled to it to claim their riches. Any who arrived after 1849 were not forty niners.
  • Sutter's Mill

    Sutter's Mill was a mill owned by John Sutter a pioneer who saw the business opportunity starting mill. The gold that was once in Mexican territory now belonged to the US who felt that any man could go and accomplish the dreams he wished. A wise man seeing that this could be easily turned into power opened a saw mill and made a lot of money.
  • California

    California was created when hundreds of thousands came rushing in to come and get the highly profitable gold. With all of the population gain many saw this as an opportunity to end slavery in the lower states and California was admitted to the union as a free state. This occurred in 1850.
  • Gadsden Purchase

    The US wanted just a little bit more of Mexico and decided to Purchase it. 29,670 Square Miles were purchased for the US in 1853. This finally sated the US's blood lost until a later date.
  • Homestead Act 1862

    With a growing population in the east Washington had to figure out a way to get people to move into their newly found land. Their plan was the homestead act which worked very successfully and made thousands move out into the new Oregon Territory. The reward for moving out was 160 Acres of free land.

    Transcontinental Railroad

    The transcontinental railroad was made possible by the invention of the steam locomotive which greatly increased travel speeds. This railroad was built solely by immigrant labor as they were the cheapest to pay at the time. It was later used to hunt the buffalo nearly to extinction.
  • Abraham Lincoln

    Was known colloquially as "Honest Abe". Was the president who fought against the Civil War and wanted peace amongst the states with no slavery being his side. He passed away in 1865 due to an assassination on his life.
  • Pioneers

    Used wagons to travel often using oxen to pull. 20000 of these people died moving west. They blazed trails and created new colonies.
  • Trails

    Used by travelers seeking a better life. The Oregon trail brought you to Oregon. The Santa Fe Trail brought you to Santa Fe. The Mormon trail Brought you to Utah.
  • Donner Party

    A group of individuals who split off from their main group. The trail they wished to travel made their journey roughly 100 miles longer. After being trapped by snowfall they were forced to eat one another.
  • Battle of Little Big Horn & Custard & 7th Cavalry

    Where Custard Lost the fight against Sioux Indians and really got his butt kicked. The reason for the battle was that white settlers were undoubtedly moving places they shouldn't have been. Custard was one of the only generals in the area to fight the Sioux forces.
  • The Dawes Act

    The Dawes Act was the sources of moving the Indians to even smaller reservations. It stated that assimilation was an okay practice to make. It really had no care for the Indians in mind.
  • The Wounded Knee Massacre

    The slaughter of more than 300 Indians. This included women and children, which was more than the Alamo of which was far fewer men and only men at that. This ended the native American resistance.
