Hunter's ITW Timeline

By hcsmith
  • Chris burns his money

Chris burns his money after abandoning his Datsun that was ruined by a flash flood. He does this because he feels that money is the root of all problems in society and is the derivative of all evil in the world.
  • Chris donates to OXFAM

Chris McCandless' donation of his remaining college fund is discovered by the private investigator. This shows the strong ethical value oh Chris because he is putting the needs of starving others ahead of his own personal needs.
  • Applies for a new ID in Houston

Chris decides to apply for a new ID, but soon changes his mind to live out his expedition and dreams in the Alaskan wild. This shows his ethical value of following through with what you say you will do.
  • Postcard from Oregon

Chris sends a postcard to Jan Burres, complaining about the weather of Oregon, when infact he has so much more that he could complain about. This shows good ethics because he is always looking at the positive side of things.
  • Jim Gallien

Jim Gallien drops Chris, now by the name of Alex, off at the trailhead. Chris turns down a sandwhich, but accepts a pair of rubber boots from Jim, never to be returned. This shows that Chris wants to be self sufficient on his endeavour into the wilderness. He does not like to take help from or accept society.
  • Bus in Alaska

Finds an old bus near the Sushanna river. He decides to live in the bus for a little bit, showing his belief that you do not need to have a home or air conditioning to live.
  • Chris found dead

Chris is found dead in the abandoned bus by three friends, Ken Thompson, Gordon Samel and Ferdie Swanson. These three friends were attempting to ride the trail in trucks and on ATVs, but come across the abandoned bus and notice a "a real bad smell from inside." They also found a sleeoing bad, which turned out to be Chris. Chris had strong ethics and beliefs, but not even that can not help you when you are too stubborn to ask for help.
