    Wehn Mao came into power, he faced many political and economic problems. They were using primitive technology and this technology could not keep pace with the population increase.

    Mutual defence treaty renogatiated between China and the USSR
    -The treaty was aimed against the USA and its ally Japan.
    -USSR gave china a $300 million dollar loan. As well they would send technicians and scientists to help jumpstart China's Industry.
    - Stalin really wanted to dominate Mao though, because Stalin thought Mao was more nationals and imperialist then communist.

    -Republic of Korea (South Korea) was supported by UN
    -Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea was supported by China and Soviet Union.
    - The war was primarily a result of political devision between the North and the South.

    • Made to foster both Industrial and agrarian growth.
    • In industry there was a large shit of investment into light industry.
    • Mao felt that many unemployed people in the urban populous should be sent back the the country side.
    • It created some political uncertanty as the Conservates in the partyu thought the Great Leap would fail.

    • It was set into motion by Mao Zedong.
    • The goal of the Cultural Revolution was to enforce communism, and remove capitalism.
    • Mao wanted to influence the youth, so they would rise up.
    • The students ended up becoming uncontrollable, they destroyed public buildings and goverment offices.
    • Permier Zhou Enlai ordered the Army to restore peace.
    • 400 000 died by army action. And many were sent to correctional camps for re-education.

    • Chinese agreed for a peace ful resolution with Taiwan.

    • He persevered through long civil war, and a japanese invasion.
    • He made China a united nation.
    • His death lead to a power struggle within the communist party.

    • He made a form of prive enterprise.
    • inflation soared
    • Unemployment rose.
    • Deng reinstated open door policy.
    • Made a complete customs free zone, which made available 160 million workers to assemble goods.
    • In the end Deng brought a Western flavour to China

    • The chinese captured some bordering cities, and retreated.
    • Both sides declared they had won, because the Vietnamese kept troops in cambodia tunitll 1989.

    • The Chinese Goverment implimtented the one child Policy to alleviate social, economic, and enviromental problems in china.
    • Apparently the goverment claims that they prevented 400 million births from 1979-2011.
    • Increased forced abortions, underreporting of female births, suggests cause behind China's sex imbalance.
  • Tiananmen Square demonstration

    • Student lead demonstrations. Were exposing splits withing political leadership.
    • unarmed civilians were trying to block military's advance on tiananmen square, where student demonstartors had been demonstrating for weeks.
    • the unarmed civilians were shot and the military inflicted thousands of casualties.
    • Chinese goverment condemned protests, and said it was a counterrevolutionary riot. The goverment forbids anyone form talking about it, and many of the angles to the event remain unknown
