In 1804 the convicts held a Rebellion in Castle Hill. This was Australia's first rebellion, held by a group of Irish convicts so that they could return to Ireland. 39 Convicts died.

During the Rum Rebellion an armed force took over the government (January 26, 1808), in Australian history, an uprising in which Government William Bligh of NSW (1806–08), that had earlier been the victim of the famous Bounty mutiny, was deposed by local critics, most of whom had ties with the New South Wales Corps.

In 1851 a Gold Rush occurred in NSW and Victoria.The first gold rush in Australia began in 1851 after Edward Hargraves found payable gold near Orange, at a site he called Ophir. Hargraves had discovered new gold techniques like panning and cradling. Hargraves was rewarded by the Colony of New South Wales and the Colony of Victoria.

There was a big Rebellion that linked to the Gold Rush. Governor Hotham the newly elected governor checked for your license twice a week. If you didn't have a license, you would be kicked out. At Bakery Hill 120 miners swore an oath of allegiance. The oath was; "We swear by the Southern Cross to stand truly by each other to fight to defend our rights and liberties," This was the first act of democracy and fight for the rights.

In 1856 Tasmania's name was changed from Van dieman's land to Tasmania.

In 1867 Mary Mackillop former the group 'The Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred heart'. Later on Mary became Australia's first Saint. She is now our patron saint. We will always remember the name Mary Helen Mackillop .

In 1890 a drought occurred along with a lowered demand for wheat and wool. This caused a lack of money and an economic depression. Banks, businesses and industries closed.
