    The enlightenment was a period of change where people started challenging old beliefs and replacing them with newer modern ideas on life.
    These ideas were a challenge to the church because the church was losing its power. When People start thinking freely they may not choose to be christian. The king might follow these belliefs and the church would lose money.
    With these ideas people do not have to do what their family does. You would not be born into your job and you can support your family

    James Cook Discovers the east coast of Australia
    James Cook left on the "Endeavour" in the year 1768, he was heading for Tahiti to observe the planet Venus. When leaving New Zealand in March in 1770 he saw the east coast of australia. He named the east coast New South Wales
    This discovery extended the reach of the british emipre into the southern hemisphere
    The first colonists of new south wales faced starvation as the soil was not fertile and it would take up to 6 months for supplies to arive

    The First Fleet
    The first fleet is the group of eleven ships that left for australia carrying convicts, free settlers and gorvernment army officials. The first fleet was carrying people to New South Wales to start a new European colony.The first fleet arrived in Botany Bay on the 18th of January but moved on and arrived in port jackson where they marked the european settlement.

    11 ships sailed to Australia and on them 1332 people, 736 of these people were convicts. These convicts had sentences that ranged between seven years and life and because of this were sent to australia. The voyage lasted 8 months and in that time 23 of the convicts died. Many of these convicts were not over 18, One boy as young as 9 years old

    Free settlers leaving england left the country due to push and pull factors. Due to the industrial revolution many people lost their job, this was a main push factor. The government was trying to attract people to come to australia by offering free land, convict slaves, tools, furniture and food and clothing rations.
    Due to them coming to australia the country became European based and the indigienous people lost nearly all their land and were hunted and murdered.

    The Australian natives were greatly affected with the settlement of the european colony in Australia, The Aboriginal people lost most of their land and hunting grounds. Many aboriginal people were killed. Some people went and worked in the town and many became slaves. Most of the aborignals had to adapt to the european life and a lot of their culture was lost.

    In 1830, Charles Sturt exploed the mouth of the Murra River and told Governor Darling that there was potential for this part of the continent. In 1834 the area was declared a colony. It was different from other colonies, the population consisted of free settlers instead of convicts.William light planned the city of Adelaide. In 1835 the first grape vines were planted. By 1841 the vines were a basis of a wine industry.

    The Battle Of Pinjarra
    In 1834, brittish settlers moved to Pinjarra where they started a small colony. In response to the brittish invasion, the bindjareb people stole food and attacked livestock and people. On the 25th of october, Governer Sterling set off with 25 soldiers to Pinjarra where they came across an aboriginal camp consisting of 70 people. After hours of fighting from both sides two brittish soldiers were wounded and between 14-30 bindjareb people had been killed.

    On the 1st of januarary, 1901, the 6 colonies, previously ruled by the brittish, became the 6 states of Ausralia. This marked the independant nationhood for the commonwealth of Australia

    World War One started with the assassination of the heir to the Austria-Hungary throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sofie. Franz and Sofie were visiting sarajebo to inspect manoeuvres of the army when they were shot and killed by a member of the serbian group; the black hand This plunged europe into war, other countries later joined the war starting the first world war

    Great Brittain declared war on Germany due to the germans invading Belguim. Brittain, being belguins ally, retaliated and declared war. This then started WW1
  • ANZAC soldiers arrive in Gallipoli

    ANZAC soldiers arrive in Gallipoli
    On the 25 of april, hundreds and thousands of ANZAC soldiers were ambushed by the awaiting Turkish army. The ANZAC soldiers had to keep going and fighting and they were at a great disadvantage, many were killed before they even got to shore. After getting to shore, the survivours had to climb through the steep hills to get to the turkish trenches. Things were just as bad for the Turkish army as well as they had to keep fighting, they were told to fight and die.
