  • French and Indian War

    A war lasting seven years that the British fought on American soil. The costs of this war caused the English King to impose new and outrageous taxes on the Americans. 1757 - 1763
  • Boston Tea Party

    A group of Americans who dressed as Indians dumped about 340 chests of tea into the Boston harbor to boycott ridiculous taxes imposed by the English government.
  • Revolutionary War

    A war fought on American soil between the colonists and the British. Many died on both sides from 1775 - 1783, when the British were finally defeated and the United States became it's own independent country.
  • Writing the Constitution

    Four years after the revolutionary war ended, the U.S Constitution was written during the Philadelphia Conference and was finally signed on September 17, 1787.
  • Lewis and Clark

    Shortly after President Thomas Jefferson confirmed the Louisiana Purchase, he brought together a group of U.S Army volunteers under the instruction of Captian Meriwether Lewis and his Lieutenent William Clark to explore and map the new land. The journey lasted from May 1804 to September 1806.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Passed in 1820, the Missouri Compromise was a way for the balance of power in congress to be equal between free and slave states. The Compromise admitted Missouri to the union as a slave state and brought in Maine as a free state.
  • Industrial Revolution

    The industrial revolution was the sudden growth of new manufacturing processes. It began around the 1760's but was concentrated around the 1820's to 1840's.
  • Start of Factories

    The Factory System was introduced during the Industrial Revolution. Although the factory system began in England, it soon spread to other parts of the world including the United States. This system replaced many non mechanical and slower systems that were already in place.
  • Manifest Destiny

    The Manifest Destiny was the belief that the expansion of the US throughout American continents was inevitable and justified. The term was first used by John L. O'Sullivan in 1845, but the term originated in the 1840's.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas was a series of violent and political confrontations involving anti-slavery activists and pro-slavery southerners. These confrontations happened from around 1854 - 1861.
  • Civil War

    The American Civil war lasted between 1861 and 1865. It was a war between the Northern and Southern states fighting for what they believed in, anti-slavery or a pro-slave life. The war was fought while President Abraham Lincoln was in office.
  • Lincoln's Assassination

    About one month before the Civil War ended, John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln in the back of the head during a play. Booth thought that because of this he would be viewed as a hero, however he instead was viewed as an international traitor and overall horrible person.
  • Reconstruction

    The reconstruction of the United States was a difficult and painful time. It was about how or if the Union would allow the confederate states to rejoin and become a whole country again. The reconstruction era lasted from 1865 to 1877.
