    After the French and Indian war was over the British government had borrowed an enormous amount of money to pay for the war, leaving them deeply in debt. The british wanted the colonies to pay for the debts and felt like the colonies should of payed for it. The british started to put taxes on goods to get back the money that had been owed.

    The Sons of Liberty were a group of people that boycotted british goods that had a stamps on them. The stamp distributors would sometimes be hung from trees, then they would pull their houses apart and lite the wood from the house on fire.

    The Boston Massacre started when Britain put about 1,000 troops in Boston to maintain order. The crowds of people would consantly disturb and harass the troops. The crowd was taunting and throwing snow balls at one of the troops, when he cried for help other troops and captin Themes Preston came over. Then the soldiers started firing into a crowd of people, killing a total of 5 people and wounded 6 others.

    In the Boston Tea Party there were 150 men that dressed in indian costumes and boarded british ships that had tea on them. There were thousands of people that were cheering on shore as the men dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor. This was done to protest against the british on putting taxes on tea.

    The Declaration of Independence was signifying that the United States of America had freed themselves from Britain and no longer having to under British Government. This event is important because it is declaring that the U.S. was now their own country.

    The Articles of Confederation was a weak central government, the states wanted and people didnt want to give up their independence to a new central government. "The Confederation Congress had the right to declare war, raise armies, and sign treaties". The government didn't have the right to impose taxes and didn't have the power to regulate trade.

    When the Treaty of Paris was signed Britain finally recognized that the U.S. was a new nation and the British troops finally left the U.S. and went back to Britain. This Treaty ended the American Revolutionary War.

    Recession is an economic slowdown, the Confederation Congress and many other states were in a lot of debt. They had to raise taxes and that caused farmers to be in debt because of the high taxes and paying for the morgages. No one would except paper money until a n angry mob rioted against merchants and Rhode Island created a law forcing people to except paper money or they would be arrested or fined.

    Shays's Rebellion started because the government of Massachusetts decided to raise taxes instead of using paper money. The taxes fell mainly on farmers, particularly on poor farmers living on the western part of the state. Shays Rebellion led 1,200 farmers into Boston to attack an arsenal, but they were met by 4,000 volunteer troops under command of Gereral Benjamin Lincoln. Shays men were defeated and many of them were caught and hanged.

    The U.S. became closer to transportaion revolution when Congress funded for there to be the building of a major east - west highway known as the National Road.

    Andrew Jackson was elected president in which "mudslinging" was first introduced, which is when the canidates criticized eachothers personalites and morals. Andrew Jackson won because he was more like the average person and fought in war, almost everyone wanted Andrew jackson to win.

    Nat Turner was an "enslaved misnister who believed god chose him to bring people out of bondage". Nat Turner was the leader of the rebellion agaisnt slavery, Nat and his men killed 57 white men, women, and children. They also would break tools ,burn down owners houses, and work slowly to decrease production so their owners wouldn't recieve as much money from the goods and to try and make a stand against white people. The rebellion later falied and Nat Turner was hanged.

    Eli Whitney changed the way interchangable parts were thought of when he transformed gun making from one by one process into a factory process, which speeds up the rate that they are made and sold. Samuel F.B. Morse developed a new way to comunicate by developing the morse code for sending messages.

    There were about 300,000 men and women that belonged in some type of union. The workers would try and go on strike because they felt that they deserved a higher pay with less hours. The strike would create a slight decrease in production but it wouldn't last long because most of the workers on strike couldn't afford to be out of work for long.

    "Jon Deere engineered a plow with sharp edged steel blades that cut cleanly through the sod". This machine reduced half of the labor to prepare an acre for farming. This made it faster to start farming which would make the farmers be able to produce goods at a faster and more productive pace.

    The Trail of Tears was when the Cherokee's were taken away and brought to the west. There were about 2,000 Cherokee's that died in camps while they were waiting for the migration to begin. There were about "2,000 thousand more that died of satrvation, diseases, and exposure on the journey".

    Kit Carson and Jim Bridger were two men that would catch beavers and sell the fur to traders. At the same time there was knowledge gained of the territory and the local Native Americans. The men found several east to west passages that ended up playing a vital role in western settlement. One passage was the Oregon Trail one of the most famous and popular routes.

    Juan Bautista Alvarado, the "governer of California tried to attract more sttlers by granting 50,000 acres in the Sacramento Valley to John Sutter, a german immigrant". Sutter's Fort was the first stopping point for Americans reaching to California. By this time over 200 Americans had traveled and settled into California.

    The North had 80% of the nation's factories, which produced huge amounts of goods and income. The factories produced more than 90% of the country's clothes, boots, and shoes. "93% of of its essential for manufacturing weapons and equipment", and almost all of the country's firearms were manufactured in the north.

    The Emancipation Proclamation was when "Abraham Lincoln wrote a decree freeing all enslaved African Americans only in the states at war with the Union, it didn't apply to the boarder states". Lincoln didn't include the boarder states because they were on the edge with leaving and Lincoln wanted the boarder states to stay on his side in the war.

    Lincoln's plan after the war was to be a policy that would "reconcile the south with the south with the Union instead of punishing them for treason". Lincoln appointed military governors for the regions under the Union control.

    Robert E. Lee tried to attack the Union but the Union stood their ground causing there to be 7,000 casualties in less than 30 minutes of fighting. It was one of the most bloody wars in history!

    The South did't taking the loss of the war because slaves were a regular part of their lives, working in the feilds making their products. This caused a decline in producing goods, therefor the former owners of the slaves would be losing money as well. It takes longer for them to plant and pick the good, such as cotton.

    Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth while Lincoln was watching a play. Andrew Jefferson after that went from Vice President to President, his style was very different from Lincoln's. Jefferson made the South pay for what they did unlike Lincoln who was going to do it peacefully, which ended up making reconstruction a much longer and harder process.
