  • The First Email was sent

    Ray Tomlinson sent the first email ever to himself as a test message. He implimented ARPANET's email system in 1971.
  • Domain Name System introduced

    The Domain Name System is used to translate domain addresses into IP addresses. This was created in 1984 by Mark Painter, Songian Zhou, Douglas Terry and David Riggle.
  • AOL was founded

    AOL (American Online) is a company that provided a web browser, email client and dial up internet to millions of people. It used to be very popular, but became obsolete when broadband became popular.
  • First Seach Engine was created

    Archie was the search engine ever created. The name Archie is based off of the word Archive. It was created by Alan Emtage.
  • World Wide Web was publicly launched

    World Wide Web was the first web browser. It got renamed to Nexus later on.
  • Mosaic was released

    Mosaic is a web browser that made the World Wide Web popular. It had a very good GUI for its time and was created by the NCSA.
  • Yahoo was Founded

    Yahoo is a company that provides a popular search engine and email service. It was originally called "Jerry and David's guide to the World Wide Web.
  • Internet Explorer was created

    Internet Explorer is the web browser that came with windows from Windows 95 to Windows 8. It was replaced by Edge in Windows 10.
  • Ebay was founded

    Ebay is a website that allowss people to sell products to other people on the internet using online auctions. It only charged sellers fees.
  • First 2mb/s wireless link speed

    IEEE 802-11 provided the first 2mb/s data transfer rate. It had a range of 20 meters indoors and 100 meters outdoors and ran at 2.4GHz.
  • Google was founded

    Google is currently the worlds most popular search engine. IN 2012 1,216,373,500,000 google searches were made.

    Firefox is a very popular web browser. It is open source and available on Windows, OSX, Linux, and mobile.

    Skype is the most popular video chat program. It allows people to video chat with others on almost and device with a microphone and camera.

    Steam is an online distributer of video games created by Valve Corporation. It has 125 Million active users and is available on Windows, OSX and Linux.
  • Facebook was founded

    Facebook is a social media service created by Mark Zucherburg. Its total revenue in 2015 was 18 billion US dollars.
  • YouTube was founded

    YouTube is a website that allows users to upload and watch videos. 500 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute.
  • Twitter was created

    Twitter is a website that lets people send out short messages called Tweets for their followers to see. An average of 6,000 Tweets are send every second.
  • Netflix began its streaming service

    Netflix started as a service that sent people DVDs to watch and send back. In 2007 it started a streaming service allowing users to watch lots of movies and TV shows online.

    Google Chrome is currently the most popular web browser. It was made by Google, who made the most popular search engine.
