The first ARPAnet delivered its first message from one computer to another. The first computer was located in a lab at UCLA while the other was at Stanford. The message was sweet and simple “LOGIN”. Ray Tomlinson, coming from BBN, invented the program to send messages across different connected networks. The "@" sign was chosen from Tomlinson's own Model 33 Teletype.
