Tom Kilburn created a prototype of a transistorized computer. -
Digital Equipment Corporation
DEC was first made to help scientists create simulations. It was made by Ken and Stan Olsen and Harlan Anderson. -
Unix
Unix was invented in 1969 as an operating system that influenced Linux and FreeBSD. -
NPL Network
The NPL computer network was designed by the National Physics Laboratory in England. It was the first pilot operational system. -
ARPANET
ARPANET was created in Standford University and UCLA to connect military computers. -
Network
The ARPANET network connected MIT, Harvard, and BBN and created the interface message processor. -
Cyclades
France creates a similar ARPANET network to that of the United States. -
Trans-Atlantic Connection
The first trans-Atlantic ARPANET network connected with the University of London. Email was three fourths of the activity. -
TCP/IP
A proposal was made to have no central control on the ARPANET network, or inter-network. A transmission control protocal was established. -
The Email Functions
John Vittal from University of Southern California invented the first modern email and established the Reply and Forward functions. -
PC Modem
Dennis Hayes and Dale Heatherington created the first PC Modem to give us something similar to what we use today. -
BBS
During a Chicago blizzard, the bulletin board system was created. -
Spam
The first unsolicited commercial mail was sent by Gary Thuerk to 600 ARPANET users. -
MUD
The first multi user dungeon was established. They were originally all text based virtual worlds that involved chat. -
ENQUIRE
Enquire was launched by CERN which was a hypertext program to keep record of people, projects, and software. It used hyperlinks to do this. -
The Switch
January 1st, 1983 was the day that the Arpanet computers all swapped to TCP/IP protocols. -
Communities
The WELL was the first virtual communities that is still being used today. Stewart BRand and Larry Brilliant created it. -
ISP
The first dial-up internet provider was introduced commercially. Arpanet died this year as well. -
World Wide Web
The very first web page, which explained what the internet was. was created. -
JavaScript
Java and JavaScript was introduced to the world. -

The first commercial web-based mail was introduced online. -

Wikipedia was launched which greatly influenced today's social media. -

These robots were designed to help create maps and search a dangerous area to avoid human injury. -

MySpace launched in 2003 making it the most popular network. Facebook has now taken its place. -
