    The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network, ARPANET for short, was the first network to implement the use of packet switching and it paved the future for the internet we have come to know and love. It was created with the goal to be able to share information over long distances.

It has improved drastically over the years, from only being to send emails to users of the same computer, to being able to send emails to anyone in the world. This is all accredited to Ray Tomlinson, who invented email in a windowless room in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

    MUDs (MultiUser Dungeons) are the earliest forms of multiplayer games. This genre includes some big titles like WOW, (World of Warcraft) RuneScape, and Second Life. These games used elements of roleplaying, PVP, and they were massively multiplayer. Players from all around the world could connect together and have fun. The first game of this genre is MUD1 which was created in 1978.

    The first major internet attack, The Morris worm, was released in 1988 and it gained lots of mainstream attention. It was written by Robert Tappan Morris and is estimated to have damage costs at about $100,000 to $10,000,000.

It was first created by the scientists at the Computer laboratory in Cambridge University who wanted to monitor their coffee pot to check if it was full. The website which hosted the livestream soon became popular and people all around the world watched as a coffee pot became full.

    Hotmail, created by Sabeer Bhatia, and Jack smith in 1996, was the first ever web-based mail service. It was later bought by Microsoft for $400 million dollars and was rebranded to MSN Hotmail. It was rebranded twice more, first to Windows Live Hotmail, and finally Outlook in 2012.
