It became very popular due to its easily understood user interface and the reliability. It was also easy to install and everyone could access it as long as they had internet connection and a computer. Mosaic went down in history because it was the very first browser that displayed images instead of displaying the pictures in separate windows.

In today's time, the web 2.0 is better and improved compared to web 1.0 because we have Google, Flickr, wikis and cost per click services on the world wide web.
