The origins of Split Ends lay in the friendship between Tim Finn and Mike Chunn in Te Awamutu. But the band really kicked off when Tim and Mike went to Auckland University and met Phil Judd, Noel Crombie, and Rob Gillies.
-
The name change from Split Ends to Split Enz, came when the band became 'electric', adopting drums, lead guitar, and brass
-
Neil joined the band when Mike Chunn and Phil Judd left the band.
-
In 1983 Tim Finn took a break to work on his solo album 'Escapade' before Split Enz was disbanded. It was a huge hit in Australia. This influenced his decision to leave the band.
-
After Tim Finn announced he was leaving the band, Split Enz carried on for one more album 'See Ya Round' before Neil decided to fold the band.
-
After Split Enz was disbanded, Neil Finn formed the band 'The Mullanes'. Later the name was changed to 'Crowded House' in relation to the small amount of space the band shared in their Hollywood apartment during the recording of the album
-
During this period great hits were released by Crowded House such as: Don't Dream It's Over", "Something So Strong", "Better Be Home Soon", "Fall at Your Feet" and "Weather With You".
-
The debut album of 'Crowded House' was released

Due to the success of the Woodface album and their general success with Crowded House and Split Enz, Neil and Tim Finn are both recognised by Queen Elizabeth II with the Order of the British Empire for their contribution to New Zealand music.
