This institution was founded by Valentin Hauy in Paris. It is known as the first school in the world for the education of blind people. It’s orginal name is "Institution Nationale des Jeunes Aveugles." Hauy was inspired by the works of people like Rousseau and L’Epee and Madame Von Paradis, who was blind, to created ideas to help blind individuals. The strategies Hauy created assisted a boy who was blind who eventually became a teacher in the school. -
This is the first special education school in the United States. It was founded by Rev, Thomas Gallaudet in the state of Hartford, Connecticut. Its original name was “The American Asylum for Education and Instruction of the Deaf and Dumb. This school was the model that led future schools for children who are deaf and the beginning of sign language. -
This federal law was signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson to disclose the lack of educational opportunity for underprivileged children. This legislation offered resources to assist children to have the opportunity to have an education. The Education for All Handicapped Children Act is a federal law signed by President Gerald Ford to establish that the states provide free appropriate public education (FAPE) for children with disabilities ages five to eighteen. This law included individualized education programs for children with disabilities and introduced least restrictive environment. This law gave the right to due process. -
This federal law replaced the “Education for All Handicapped Children Act. This law established “people-first” language in reference to people with disabilities. Within this law, special education services are prolonged to social work, assistive technology and rehabilitation. In this law two new categories of disability are introduced which are autism and traumatic brain injury. It promotes students with disabilities by the age of sixteen to have an ITP. -
This act (PL 105-394) is federally funded to states who have assistive technology grant programs that serve people with disabilities. It gives individuals with disabilities access to multiple assistive technology and provides low interest loans to obtain their choice of technology. Assistive technology equipment are used to assist the individual need of a person with a disability. The equipment can range from low, mid and high tech. -

This federal law was a reauthorization and revise of IDEA 1997. This law allowed districts to use response-to-intervention model to detect a child specific learning disability. Also, federal funds were increased for early intervention services for students who are not in special education. Standard for high quality special education teachers are demanded. Under this new law, students will be placed in inclusive classroom.
