The origin of Football dates back to the 2nd and 3rd century BC
The game was often played in China, Japan,Greece, Rome and Egypt.
Originally called "Cuju" in China and "Kemari" in Japan.
Both Han and Ming Dynasty use Soccer as a form of military fitness training that involved kicking the ball and playing in teams of two. -

Modern Football rules and foundation can be accredited to England.
The first Fooltball Association was founded in London on October 26 1863.
Laying the rules and foundation for the sport to be played in schools and universities across Europe.
Football offically seperated from Rugby on December 8, 1863, becoming an independent sport. -

The International Football Associatin Board (IFAB) oversees and forms the Laws of The Game internationally.

11 players including a goalkeeper (goalie) from each team
Played for a total of 90 minutes split in two priods of 45 minutes

Going Global
FIFA:
While the game had been played globally, including in the Olympic; there was not an international governing body to set up international games, rules and structures.
FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) was establised in 1904 to do just that.
FIFA does not make the rules of the game but set up international tournaments and competitions. -

Due to the popularity and love of the sport, on Christmas Eve of 1914 during the first World War both the German and British troops ceased fire for a Football match. Which is today known at the Christmas Day Truce of 1914 took placed at Ploegsteert a Germany territory controlled by Britian. -
World Cups
FIFA World Cup
World Cups are played every four years
The first World Cup was played in Uruguay in 1930.
Uruguay defeated Argentina 4-2 coming out as the first world cup winner.
A total of 20 World Cups competition has taken place to date; with Brazil winning five (the most).
Germany has won four and currently holds the title from the 2014 FIFA tournament in Brazil. -
World War II
"Brazil Saved The World Cup"
The Football Association suspended Football tournaments due to World War II.
World Cups were not played in 1942 and 1946 due to World War II.
Brazil stepped in to host the 1950 World Cup, the first post World War II.

Women's World Cup
The US women team won their first FIFA World Cup in 1991.
