    Bishop Polding

    Bishop Polding was the first Catholic bishop and then became archbishop in Sydney. He was born in Liverpool England in 1794
  • 1800 BCE

    Religion continuing to evolve

    The European settlers continued to bring their Christian traditions to Australia. These traditions included, Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist, Congregationalist, Lutheran and Baptist Churches.
  • Period: 1788 BCE to

    The start of Christianity

    In around 1788, Christianity was the first religion to reach Australia. This was conducted by the captain of the First Fleet, Richard Johnson. He was an evangelistic minister.
  • First ceremony held

    The first religious ceremony performed in the colony was in NSW.
  • First Catholic Priest

    The first catholic priest arrived in Australia. These priests were transported convicts during the First Fleet that had arrived in the Colony Share.
