Lee De Forest is said to have created the idea of the Audion Tube. An Audion Tube was a vacuum tube that amplified signals. Though Lee De Forest is said to have "borrowed" the idea from Canadian inventor Reginald Fessenden.

In !920 the first ever radio station was built. It was called the 8XK it was later renamed the KDKA. It was Frank Conrad who built the station.

In 1922 WEAF aired the first ever commercial on the radio. It was a 10 minute long commercial for an apartment complex. They charged $50 for the whole thing, that is $678.64 in todays economy.

In !927 the FRC (Federal Radio Comminsion) was created. They were created to organize the disfunctional radio brocasting stations. Also so company ads were heard. They said you had to have a lincense to have a transmitter. They also gave frequencies, call letters, and power limits to radio stations. This ended Uncle Charlie stations.

This was known as the Golden Era of radio. This was due to The Great Depression and World War 2 that was going on at the time ,and people needing an escape from the real worlld.

In 1953 tv came out in color increasing its popularity immensely. Companies started going to TV to advertise them and leaving radio for them to lose money.
