  • Charter of 1732

    Charter PicThe Charter of 1732 was created to make Georgia a "safe haven" for British people in debt. It was granted by King George II to James Oglethorpe. Georgia was created for chairity, economics and defense. Two things that were prohibited from Georgia were slavery and land inheritance Three groups of people were also not allowed in Georgia which were Catholics, lawyers, and blacks. 21 trustees were in charge of Georgia. The restrictions it put on the trustees were that they didnt live in Georgia.

  • Founding Savannah

    Savannah PicThe first city founded in Georgia was Savannah. It was founded by James Oglethorpe. He and his men arrived of the ship 'Anne'. Chief Tomochichi gave them permission to land in Yamacraw Bluff. Since they did not speak the same language, Oglethorpe found May Musgrove who was part Brittish part Yamacraw to transleate.

    Salzbuger picThe Salzburgers founded this city to help protect Georgia. They fled from their homeland to Georgia because of rising conflicts between Protestants and Catholics.
  • Founding of Darien

    Darien PicThis city was founded by Scottish Highlanders. This group of people was recruited by Oglethorpe t serve as a miliary, becasue of their reputation of fearless warriors.
  • Battle of the Bloody Marsh

    Bloody Marsh PicIt was led by James Oglethorpe. The colonists fought the Spansih in this battle. It resulted in a victory for Oglethorpe. The Highland Scots herlped Georgia win this battle. This battle was important because they scared the Spanish so bad they didnt attack again.

    John Reynolds PicThe Malcontents always complained about the Trustees. The three things they complained about were no alchohal, no slaves, and land inheritance. When Georgia became a Royal colony, it was under the rule of the king. Three of Georgias royal governors were John Reynolds, Henry Eliis, and James Wright.

    War PicThe war was between the Brittish and the French and Indians. The Brittish won the war, Britain gained all of the Frenchs' land in North America. This caused the American Revolution, because Britain taxed the colonists to pay for the war and only taxed them.
  • Proclaimation of 1763

    Proclaimation PicThe King gava all his new western land to the Indians after the war. He decided to give them the land to have no further conflict between the Indians. The colonists were angry, because they wanted that land.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp ActThis Act taxed anything printed on paper. The Brittish passed this Act to help pay for the debt in the French and Indian War. The colonists were angry because it wasnt fair to tax everything on paper.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    Boston Tea Pary PicAfter the Boston Tea Party, the Brittish passed these laws to put the colonists in their place. These Acts shut down the Boston port, housed the quartering act, made it so trials were set in Britan, and there were no town meetings. There were 4 in all.
  • Declaration of Independence

    DOI PicThe main author of this document was Thomas Jefferson. This document basically said the 13 colonies were succededing from Britain and that they would become their own country. The men from Georgia who signed it were George Walton, Button Gwinnett and Lyman Hall.
  • Siege of Savannah

    Savannah PicThe British had taken control of Savannah and its port and blocked off trade. The French helped the colonists fight the British. This battle was a failure and the British kept control of Savannah.
  • Battle of Kettle Creek

    Dabney PicThis battle was led by Elijah Clarke. The colonists won this battle and stole horses and supplies from the British. Austin Dabney was the only black solider to fight in this war and he recieved land and his freedom for his service.
  • UGA

    UGA PicIt was founded by Abraham Baldwin. UGA was a land grant university which meant it was given land from the federal govenment. Blacks and women were not allowed to go to UGA when it first opened. It was origanally called Franklin College.
