Lee De Forest created or (borrowed) the idea. It amplified signals. It makes the signals louder. it takes the signal and amplifies it to another. They can transmit signals further than they could before. This is crucial because it can go further and its way more advanced.

The first radio stations came abroad in 1920. They broadcasted music. First called 8XK Later named KDKA. Frank conrad invented the station, and it still is running today broadcasting music.

Sports broadcasting began. including the college football on radio broadcast of a 1921 West Virginia vs. Pittsburgh football game. This was important because sports were popular back then and they were a good form of entertainment. So more people would listen to the radio and hear people talking about sports.

Tv makes appearence in the late 30's. As popularity grew, advertisers moved to tv. Radio lost money and they had to jump off. People said Tv did to radio what cars did to horses.

Music was added to the radio stations to save them. The tv was outshining the radio broadcasting networks and they were closing down. People only had three options to listen to music, so this brought alot of people back becaue they could listen in their car or at home.

Major Edwin invented the FM Transmitter which made music stronger and lounder when listening to it on the radio. It also gave a higher quality sound. Talk was on AM. Which was in kilahertz which is way lower quality than FM.
