    The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson. It was adopted by the Continental Congress. The significance was that the Americans would be free from the British government.

    France sold the Louisiana Territory to the US because Napolean needed money for a war with Great Britain. We significantly doubled our size of 530 million acres. We also only had to pay 15 million.

    The US and British were fighting in the war. The British had the advantage at sea.The significance of the war of 1812 was that forcing out British gave us pride and hope. It also increased our manufacturing and gave us a better government after the war.

    The Indian Removal Act was when the United States Government kicked out and forced the Indians to move out of the land just so the US could have it. The significance of this was that the Indians were marched to Oklahoma called the Trail of Tears, because many Indians died.

    The Mexican-American War was when President Polk believed in manifest destiny where we needed to spread across, border to border. The significance was that the US expanded about 1/3.

    The significance of the California Gold Rush was that California became much more populated and there was more space so many immigrants came too. California struck gold and attracted many people who very little people got rich.

    The Compromise of 1850 gained the U.S new territory form Mexico. It did alot of changes to Amera.There are five parts to the signifigance, California was admitted to the Union as a free state, popular sovertieghy woud decide slavery issue in New Mexico and Utah. Also you couldnt buy alves in Washinton D.C, the borders of Texas and New Mexico were fixed and all citizens must help catch ruway slaves.

    It allowed Kansans and Nebraskan men vote wether they want slavery in their state or not. So pro and anti- slavery setrtlers rushed into the states to help increase the vote for or against slavery. The signifigance of this was that hey let popular sovereignty decide.
  • John Browns Raid

    John Browns Raid
    John Brown and his sons with some supports attemptd to overtake the arsenal at Harpers Ferry,Virgina. They wanted the slaves and any blacks against slavery to rebel and revolt against the slave- supports, but the federal troops overtook them and John Brown was hanged for sedition. The significance is that he tried to end slavery in a way he believed was right.
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    Battle of Fort Sumter
    Fort Sumter was in the middle of the ocean and the confederates made forts surrounding it. The first shot was from Fort Johnson and they attacked from all sides. The Confederates won and Union lost. The significance is that this was the beginning to the War.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    The Emancipation Proclamation first declared freedom of all slaves in any state and inlarged the purpose of war. They were fighting for slavery and not just succession. More and more slaves were liberated and th army increased. The significance was that it led to th 13th amendment.
  • Seige of Vicksburg

    Seige of Vicksburg
    Ended on July 4th 1863. The seige of Vicksburg was when the Union surrounded the Confederacy and wouldet them have any supplies or food pass to them. They were ona hill so all the transportation was gone and they ran out of food water and got sick, so they surrendered. The significance was that this was one of the last fights to end Civil War.
