    The Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence declared America's freedom from Great Britain. The committee chosen to draft the Declaration was Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert LIvingston, and Thomas Jefferson. It took two weeks for the Declaration to be written and was passed on July 4th, 1776.

  • Cotton Gin

    Cotton Gin
    Eli Whiteny invented this machine that could clean up to 50 pounds of cotton per day. This machine set the South off doing very well economically, compared to the South.

    Louisiana Purchase
    This was a purchase between the United States and France. It doubled the size of our country and brought many great things.

  • The Lewis and Clark Journey West

    The Lewis and Clark Journey West
    Lewis and Clark were two men chosen by President Thomas Jefferson to lead an expedition into the newly bought Louisiana Territory. The men left in the summer of 1803 and returned with great information in 1806.

  • Texas War of Independence

    Texas War of Independence
    Texas was originally part of Mexico, but went to war with them and became their own nation. In December, Texas wanted to be part of the United States and asked Congress to annex them to the Union. Eventually, Texas was added to the United States as a new state.

  • Mexican-American War

    Mexican-American War
    The war started when a Mexican unit ambushed American soldiers on American soil. The United States ended up promising to protect the Mexicans and Mexico sold them the southern New Mexico and Arizona.

    California Gold Rush
    James Marshall found gold on January 24, 1848 while building a sawmill. This caused one of the largest migrations in American history and allowed California to become a state in the United States.

  • The Attack on Fort Sumter

    The Attack on Fort Sumter
    Confederates fired at Fort Sumter before sunrise on April 12, 1861. The fight was ended after 34 hours. Fort Sumter had to surrender and people feared it ended the preserving of the union.

  • Battle of Gettysburg

    Battle of Gettysburg
    The Battle of Gettysburg was an important battle that turned the tide against the Confederates. It took four days, but the Union finally won and gave hope to the northerners. President Lincoln gave a speech called the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863 praising the bravery of the soldiers.

  • Black Tuesday

    Black Tuesday
    The stock market in the 1920s was rising and it seemed easy to make some money by investing in stocks. The prices reached their peak in the summer of 1929 and then started to drop. People panicked and tried to sell as fast as possible which caused the stock market to collapse, becoming Black Tuesday.
  • Supreme Court Case: Brown vs Board of Education

    Supreme Court Case: Brown vs Board of Education
    Delaware, Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. all put their segragation cases together with the title Brown vs Board of Education. The Brown was Linda Brown, 9, and she had to travel across town for a school for black children when she lived close to a school for white children. May 17, 1954 marks the day when the Supreme Court was unanimous ruling that segregation in schools was illegal.

    First Appearance of Spider Man
    Spider Man is a comic book hero created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Spider Man's secret identity is a teenage high schooler named Peter Parker and many teens can relate to him, making the series a huge success. The franchise has included movies, animated shows, and many book series.

    Death of Elvis
    Elvis Presley was called the "King of Rock and Roll" and was an American singer. He was loved and adored by his many, many fans. He died on August 16 at the age of 42 and his cause of death is thought to be drug abuse.
