    On this day the Declaration of Independance was signed. This is important because this told King George that we wanted independance. This helped us to gain our independance.(american history book)

    Hand cleaning cotton took to long. A worker could clean about a pound a day. Eli Whitney invented a machine to clean cotton which could clean 50 pounds in a day. (orange book page 372)

    Lewis and Clark were sent by jefferson to explore land that was purchased. Their mission was to go through the louisiana territory and to the west coast to see the occean. (page 348 in orange book)

    On this day president Jefferson paid 15 milion dolors to france for this land. This doubled the size of the nation and gave us control over the entire mississippi.

    Many people migrated into texas, mexico. These people refused to abide to the rules of mexico and were no longer welcomed when they were outnumbering the tejanos 6 to 1. Mexico made the americans pay taxes for the first time. They also stoped any more immagrations from america. this caused a war to start in 1833. America won the war which gave us the texas territory and much more. (orange book page 427 - 431)

    After conflict of determining boarders and who owns what land Mexico lead an ambush of an american patrol. two days later congress declared war. In May 1846 Zachary Taylor lead troops into mexican territory. In september 1847 mexico city had fallen and america had won the war. (page 433 - 437 orange book)

    People rushed to california in hope of a fortune after James Marshall found gold. About 1 in 100 found enough gold to get rich. (page 440 in orange boook.)

    On this day fort sumter was attacked by confeterates. This was the begining of the civil war. (american history book)

    The supreme court ruled that separating people by their race was un constitutional. This helped to alow kids with all difforent races to attend the same school.(ourdocuments.gov)
