  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    This is the document that declared our freedom from Great Brittan. Thomas Jefferson wrote the majority of The Decleration of Independence in two weeks.On July 2, 1776, Congress considered the document and despite some opposition The Decleration passed. On July 4, 1776 The Decleration of Independence was adopted.
  • Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin

    Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin
    Whitney invented interchangeable parts. This speeded up production and made repairs easy. It also allowed more jobs to be created because you didn't need too much expeirience. (McDougal- Littel, 367).
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    On this date the Louisians Purchase was approved for $15 million dollars. That was only 3 cents per acre. The US has doubled in size and at the time Americans knew very little about this territory. In order to learn more about this new land Jefferson chose Meriweather Lewis and William Clark.   • The Lewis and Clark Expedition

    The Lewis and Clark Expedition
    During this two-year-long journey Meriwether Lewis and William Clark ventured into the west. This land was just purchased and the people new very little about the land. They found over 300 animal species and nearly 50 American Indina tribes. (McDougal-Littel, 344).
  • The Steamboat (Robert Fulton)

    The Steamboat (Robert Fulton)
    This was the first steamboat that could move against the current and strong winds. This invention cut time and distance in half when you traveled along the Mississippi RIver. (McDougal- Littel, 368).
  • The Texas Revolution

    The Texas Revolution
    Texas was owned by the spanish before this war broke out. The Spanish people allowed the new texans to start a settlement there but wouldn't allow them to purchase it. The American settelers were forced to obey the Spanish laws and most of the settlers didn't like that. The Texans greatly outnumbered the Spanish and they won the war, (McDougal- Littel, 429-431).
  • The Trail of Tears.

    The Trail of Tears.
    The Trail of Tears is when Americans forced Native Americans out of their homes and into the Indian Territory. Over the long journey over a quarter of the Cherokee indians died. There were few who actually signed the treaties saying that they would move to the Indian Territory. Every other Native was pulled out of their homes with nothing but what they had on their backs.   • The Alamo

    The Alamo
    This war was over whether or not Texas should break free from Mexico or not. When the Texans won the war they were declared The Lone Star State. Several years later TExas joined the United States. (McDOugal- Littel, 426).
  • The Donner Party

    The Donner Party
    The Donner Party was a group of pioneers who seperated from the main group to take the "shortcut" known as Hasting's Route. This passage was said to take 400 miles off of the trip and to have easy flat ground for passage. Little did they know was that the route had never been tested. the route added over 100 miles and stranded them for five months. This is a very famous event because they were the first group to ever turn to cannibalism. (America: The Story of US, Westward).

    The California Gold Rush
    A carpenter named James Marshall was building a saw mill when he spotted the first sign of gold in California. Little did Marshall know, he would cause a huge economic growth in California. AT the peak of the migration over 250,000 people flooded to California. The large mass of people caused California to become a state. Without the Gold Rush America might not have the 50 states that it does today. (McDougal-Littel, 438-439).
  • The Attack on Fort Sumter

    The Attack on Fort Sumter
    The Attack started when Confederates opened fire on Fort Sumter in 1861. After 34 hours of fighting, Anderson surrendered. This was important because it was the start of The Civil War. (McDougal Littell textbook)
  • The Mexican War

    The Mexican War
    The Mexican War was started over land in the United States. After Texas left Mexico, the mexicans wanted to gain control over it again. THe president of Mexico also wanted control over surrounding areas. THey istigated war and sure enough one started. On Febuary 2, 1848 the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the war.     In the early hours the Titanic Struck an iceburg and began to sink. Out of about 2,224 passengers only 750 survived. The Titanic sank in 2 hours and 40 minutes.
  • The Supreme Case: Brown vs. The Board of Education

    The Supreme Case: Brown vs. The Board of Education
    The case of Brown vs. The Board of Education stsrted when a seven-year-old African American girl had to walk across town even though she lived right near a school for white children. This case was important because the Supreme Court unanimously voted that segregation was illeagal. (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt text book)

    Death of Elvis
    Elvis Presley was and American sing and actor, often called "The King of Rock and Roll." Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tuelo Mississippi.He later moved to Memphis Tennesee when he was thirteen. Elvis was in 33 successful films in his lifetime and sold over one billion records.   • 9/11

    9/11
    9/11 was a series of attacks that was coordinated by the terrorist group al-Qaeda. Four passenger airplanes were hi-jacked by 19 terrorists and flown into buildings as a suicide attacks. two of the buildings that the planes were flown into were the World- Trade Towers.     Angelina Foundation is Created
