NSW was established in 1788 when captain James Cook arrived.

On the 18th of January 1788 11 ships arrived in Australia, it was carrying more then 1,000 convicts. it was to become the first European settelment in Australia

In 1876 NSW got its flag. It has the state badge of New South Wales on it.

In 1898 NSW had a vote (referendum). The first referendum failed the goal of 80,000 yes votes.

Different policies on trade divided the colonies for most of the 1800s. At the borders between the colonies were customs stations, which caused a lot of conflict between the colonies and reinforced their independence. Each colony charged a tax on goods if you were coming from another colony or country. The tax was to protect the industries in each colony

Premier George Reid negotiated some changes
to the Constitution, that a majority voted yes. Majority of the votes was yes. -
On Commonwealth Day, 1 January 1901, all six colonies became States of the new Australian
nation,and no State did so with more pride and excitement than New South Wales.
