  • Residential Schools Starts (Con 1)

    Residential schools starts up and is for all the First Nations children, is mandatory!
  • The first broadcast (Pro 1)

    this was the time that Canada would get our first broadcast and later on, would evolve to what it is now
  • Chinese Immigration Act (Con 2)

    The act had banned Chinese immigrants from entering Canada, this also included ethnic Chinese with British nationality to enter as well
  • Waterford coal miners' Strike (pro 2 and con 3? depends on how you look at it)

    on this day, Bill Davis was shot and killed during the miners' strike in New Waterford, N.S. and we have this day as Davis Day to commemorate him, as he is the face of a miner. this also brought recolonization to the miners' who go to work and never come back. while it was recognized, not much was done about it.
  • Imperial Conference creates the Commonwealth (pro 3)

    this conference made Canada evolve into a self-governing nation!
  • Prohibition Ends in Ontario (pro or con 4)

    alcohol was made legal again, which cause a lot of problems when it wasn't, closing bars and making underground areas to have alcohol. you could call this a pro or con from they way you look at it due to the chaos it caused for many, and/or the fact that there wouldn't be anymore problems with alcoholics and drunk driving.
  • Regulation 17 is Withdrawn (pro 5)

    Regulation 17 was going to remove the french-speaking schools as it was 'abnormal'. however it was then withdrawn, keeping those schools still up for french-speaking Canadians!
  • Women Legally Persons (pro 6)

    women have won the right to hold seats in the senate by the Imperial Privy Council, which ruled that women were legally "persons"
  • Black Tuesday Stock Market Crash (con 5)

    investors traded 16 mill shares in a single day to New York. and so billions of dollars were lost and wiping out investors. this then cause/started/lead up to, The Great Depression.
  • The Great Depression (Con 6)

    The Great Depression left millions unemployed, homeless and hungry.

  • Statute of Westminster gives Canada power independent of Britain (pro 1)

    this gave Canada their independents of the dominions
  • Holocaust begins after Nazis come to power in Germany (con 1)

    the holocaust has killed so many people who were mainly Jewish and not christian. so when it began it did not mean any good
  • Christie Pit Riot (pro 2)

    the riot was broken out with no one killed, and the swastika wasn't displayed and there weren't any more riots after that
  • On-to-Ottawa Trek and Regina Riot (con 2)

    unemployed men made the walk to Ottawa about the camps and unemployment. however they failed and didn't make it.
  • Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King addresses the league of Nations (pro 3)

    the prime minister stated that he didn't support going into instant war with other nations/ countries.
  • Canadians fight illegally in the Spanish Civil War (con 3 {in my opinion} and/ or pro 4)

    men who wanted to fight in Spain were shipped out in secret and secretly fought. in my opinion, this is a con due to the fact that it was illegal and a high risk of death and being caught in the civil war which could be punishable.
  • S.S. St. Louis refugees refused entry into Canada (con 4)

    jewish refugees were denied entry into Canada and the passengers had to then return back home.
  • Canada declares war on Germany and it's allies (pro 4 or con 5)

    Canada goes to war with them and help out our allies against them. however we were unprepared for the war.
  • 1940's Pro's and Con's

  • Elsie MacGill leads production of Hawker Hurricane aircraft (pro 1)

    she was the first women aeronautical engineer and aircraft designer and was known as "Queen of the Hurricanes".
  • Battle of Hong Kong (con 1)

    2,000 troops went from Canada to fight, but on Christmas Day 290 died and later 264 would too.
  • Dieppe Attack (con 2)

    the forces were to sneak up to shore on the beach to attack Germany, however Germany heard they were coming and won the battle.
  • Internment of Japanese Canadians began (con 3)

    Canadians thought that Japanese Canadians, no matter if they were born in Canada or not, were spies and were to not be in the military and were heavily discriminated so they were put into internment camps for work and living.
  • Battle of Ortona, Italy (pro 2)

    this battle was fought between two battalions of elite German Fallschirmjäger. Canada then claimed victory
  • D-Day (con 4 and pro 3)

    D-Day was in Normandy, France and many casualties were in the war. 1,074 Canadians, of whom 359 were killed. By the end of the Battle of Normandy, the Allies had suffered 209,000 casualties, including more than 18,700 Canadians. however Canada and our Allies had won the battle!
  • Canadian troops free the Netherlands (pro 4)

    Canadian troops fought against German soldiers and won against them.
  • Germany and Japan surrender and WW2 ends (pro 5)

    after the long world war, they finally surrender and we were then victorious with the war no more.

    Viola was removed from the theater because she was POC (person of colour) showing discrimination towards POC

    NATO is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, also called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance between 30 North American and European countries!

    it's mainly filled with pro's than con's
  • Canada enters the Korean War (pro 1)

    Canada joined the battle and in the end it went with Korea signing an agreement.
  • CBC Begins Broadcasting Hockey Night in Canada (pro 2)

    This was a starting point for Canada to branch off and broadcast more sports and showing others who weren't there what happened in the game
  • Polio vaccine becomes available (con 3)

    it wasn't a really useful vaccine and it was then suspended
  • Suez Crisis (con 2)

    Israeli armed forces pushed into Egypt toward the Suez Canal.
  • Avro Arrow project cancelled (con 3 {in my opinion})

    the project was cancelled after how much it was costing, it's delays, and government budget reductions

  • FLQ Bombings begin in Montreal (con 1)

    The FLQ is a terrorist group that was formed by french-speaking Canadians and they went on a riot and bombing and kidnappings.

    this gave everyone a chance to change the flag and to show our independents from the last one

    this pact was the automotive trade agreement

    this had people able to come in if they met the requirements for the country

    this was the the year where they were gonna decide if they were to separate and be their own country or not. in the end they didn't

    this is a sheep was cloned using an adult somatic cell, using the process of nuclear transfer
  • Women's Hockey becomes an Olympic event (pro 4)

    this showed that women can also participate in hockey and other sports

  • Terrorist attacks on the U.S. lead to Canada's mission in Afghanistan (con 1)

    Canada joined an international coalition to destroy the al-Qaeda terrorist network and the Taliban regime that sheltered it in Afghanistan after an attack on the U.S.
  • Michaelle Jean becomes Canada's third female and first black governor general (pro 1)

    this bring POC and women to step up and go into the government

    this brought people together and brought mobile phones into light
  • Canada officially apologizes for residential school system (pro 3)

    as we talked about in 1920, those families finally got an apology and many other First Nations people
  • Canada's mission in Afghanistan ends (pro 5)

    NATO formally ended ISAF combat operations in Afghanistan, and so the battle ends

    this places young women at the center of decision making processes.
