  • Inadian removal act

    Inadian removal act
    Signed by Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830. Some of the tribes left peasufully but most wanted to fight for there land. The cherokee were moved forcibly west by the U.S. gov't. About 4,000 Cherokee died on the march and that became the trail of tears. Authorizing the president to grant unsettled lands west of the mississippi in exchange for Indian lands.
  • Test case against georgia law

    Missionary Samuel Worcester and several other missionaries were arrested when they refused to obtain a license to reside among the Cherokees as required by a recently passed law in Georgia, in they were convicted.
  • Worcester vs. Georgia

    In September 1831, Samuel A. Worcester and others, all non-Native Americans, were indicted in the supreme court for the county of Gwinnett in the state of Georgia for "residing within the limits of the Cherokee nation without a license" and "without having taken the oath to support and defend the constitution and laws of the state of Georgia."
  • Worcester Pardon

    Worcester Pardon
    Worcester accepts a pardon from the governer of Georgia and is released from prison. Though they prevailed in their case, they were afraid of pursuing further litigation thinking it would exacerbate the current state rights crisis.
  • Trail of tears

    In 1830 Jackson pressured the choctaw to sign a treaty that required them to move from mississippi. In 1831 Jackson ordered U.S. troops to forcibly remove the Sauk and Fox tribes form there land in Illinois and Missouri. 1832, Jackson forced the chickasaw to leave their lands in alabama and mississippi. Out of 15,000 4,000 Cherokee died. The Cherokee went from the mississippi to present day oklahoma.
  • California Gold Rush

    In January 1848, James Wilson Marshall discovered gold while constructing a saw mill along the American River northeast of present-day Sacramento. The discovery was reported in the San Francisco newspapers in March but caused little stir as most did not believe the account.
  • Laramie Treaties

    Provided various native american nations control of the centeral plains, land east of the rocky mountains which was from the Arkansaw river up to CanadaIn return the native americans promised not to attack settlers, but the government kept violating the treaty and the native american hunting lands were deplited of buffalo and elk by settlers.
  • Fort Atkinson Treaty

    A treaty between the Comanche, Kiowa, and Apache tribes. This treatt consisted of peace and freindship between the tribes.
  • Comstock Lode

    The Comstock Lode is one of the most important mining discoveries in American history, in output and in significance. It was the first major silver discovery in United States history: of the total ore taken out from the district, best estimates are that 57 per cent was silver, yet it was a considerable gold camp, given that the remaining 42 per cent was of that metal.
