Stephen Douglas was a well known senetor. He become famous because of his work on the compromise of 1850. He also worked on the Kansa Nebraska act. -
MIssouri Compromise
Maine becomes a frees state and Missouri becomes a slave state.Split Louisiana Purchase along 36 30 with the north being free and the south being slave.This caused more of a division in the country. Which helped lead to the civil war. -

There where 15 slave states and 15 free states. In 1850 California requested admission to join the union. Again in 1820with the Missouri compromise, The debate on weather California should be a free state or a slave start. -

Sephen Douglas gained fame during the compromise of 1850. Sephen Douglas was a senetor from illinois. He was a democrat and Douglas was resposible for the Kansas Nebraska act. The missouri compromise line diveded the nothern free states and the southern free state.The line that diveds the northern states and southern sates is the 3630. Missouri became a slave state even though it was above the 36 60 line but southerners didnt want another free state. -
