    the archaic indians were around about 8,000b.c -1,000b.c. They had the first house pits or underground shelters as homes. They often moved but returned to the same spots. There technology was slightly more advanced, they had simple pottery and small thin clovis points becuase they hunted smaller animals. These early indians did not have a certin religion or trade.

    The mississippian indians were the most advanced indian culture. they began forming cities, establishing cheifdom and making advanced pottery. they also have the most advanced bow and arrows. they were the first indians to not only kill animals for food but living off of agriculture like squash, corn, and beans.

    hernando de sotoHernando de soto was looking for gold in florida and parts of georgia . he didnt realize that there wasnt really any gold the indians had gotten it from the europeans.
    On his way to south carolina he and his men killed thousands of indians in battles and from european diseases. The indians gave them some food and supplies but eventually all of hernadnos men died including himself.

    The salzburgers were german protestants that were kicked out of their home country. They were supported by king George who told them to come settle in Georgia.They arrived in Georgia in 1734. They were very helpful to the colony. They founded the town of ebenezer and one of the oldest churchs in Georgia. They also had a stamping mill for rice and a silk factory.

    John Reynolds was Georigas first royal governor. When he arrived in Georgia the colonists liked him and his ideas about self government but after he sent the legislature home and made decisions by his self he lost his popularity and was replaced by the king.

    The yazoo land fraud made settlers very mad. Land companies bribed legislatures to pass laws to make land cheaper. Then they sold it to settlers for a much higher price. When the people found out about it they voted the legeslatures out of office.

    Georgia was the youngest colony so it had the closest ties with britain. That is why so many people hesitated to join the revolutionary movement, that emerged from american colonies. Many Georgia colonists thought they needed britains help against a possible indian attack. Some of the ones that wanted close ties with britain (the loyalists) moved back to britain.

    Georgia foundedGeorgia was founded by james oglethorpe with the charter of 1732. Oglethorpe wanted to help debters get out of the prison and the horrible conditions they were living in. He asked the king and was given a charter. the orgiganal size of georgia was huge it stretched all the way from the pacific ocean to the atlantic. He chose 71 trustees to help govern the colony. georgia was orgianaly going to be a buffer colony also, becasue at the time florida was spainish controled

    The university wasthere before athens, athens formed around the collage. A baldwin was the first president.

It was named after king louis of france after king for helping the colonists during the relolutionary war The population was moving westward and to keep it centralized they moved it to louisville. But ot did not stay there long the population kept moving

    Before the cotton gin was invented Georgias main crop was tobacco. The cotton gin made seperating the seeds much easier. It also made many changhes to Georgia as well as parts of other states. There was a expoentional increase in slaves. But georgia made a mistake growing only cotton. When the cival war started the north stoped sending the south supplies. The south lost the war.

    In late 1829 Georgia (at this time cherokee land) was flooded by thousands of people in search of gold. In 1830 there were 4 thousand miners in yahoola creek alone. Though nobody knows who first discovers gold in dahlonaga there have been many accusations.

    The trail of tears made all Cherokee Indians walk to Oklahoma. It killed over 4,000 people. The Cherokees were once in Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, north Carolina ,Alabama and Georgia. Andrew Jackson waned to rove all Cherokee Indians.

A stae convention omn December 10 1850 in midgeville Georgia the platform consisted of a set of resolutions acceptinig the compromise of 1850.     The southern slave owners liked this because that means slavery could be anywhere.

    Alonzo herndon was born a slave in walton county georgia. he moved to atlanta to open a barber shop. in 1905 he bought a small insurence company for 140 dollars. then hired college graduates to run the company. it is now called atlanta life and has a net worth of more than 200 million dollars.

    Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the united states. Though he only had 40% of the popular vote he beat the other 2. The south did not want him to win because he was against slavery and they thought he would ambolish slavery . When Lincoln was elected on march 4th 1860, seven states had already seceded and created the confederate states of america.

    During th civil war a confederarte prison was built in Macon Georgia. The prison quicklyy became known as andersonville. In the summer of 1864 the camp had the largest prison population of its time. The prison could only hold about 10,000 but more than 25,000 prisoners were there.

    the most detstructive campaign in the civil war began in Atlanta on Nov. 15 and ended in savannah on dec. 21 1864
    Led by union general William T. Sherm,an about 60,000 troops were with sherman. The purpose of the march was to scare georgias population into abandoning the confederacy.

    Founded in 1866 the ku klux klan was in almost every state by 1870 The kkk was formed in tennesse in 1866. whites began looking 4 new ways to defeat there enimies. The klans terrorism began most notably on march 31 1868 when george ashburn was murdered in colombus GA most KKK action was designed to scxare black voters and suppoters.

    He became close friends with W.E.B dubois. During the atlanta race riot hope was an active civic leader who worked to restore calm to hius city. His wife lugenia was also a well known civic leader. she helped organize many civil movements and speechs.

    The 14th amendment was ratified on july 9 1868 during the recontruction era. Along with the 13 and 15 amendments are known as the reconstructive amendments. Its goal was to ensure that all persons born in the u.s were citizens and to be given full and equal benifits of all laws.

    The fifteenth amendment granting afrian american men the right to vote was adopted into the us constitution on march 1870. Despite the amendment various discrimintory practices were used to prevent the african americans to to exersice there right to vote.

The braves won the title in 1995 The braves are the only major league baseball franchise to win the world series in 3 different home cities.

    The u.s was neutral,and didnt want ot get involved in the war. German submarines sank a british ship killing 128 americans President wilson warned germany not to violate internashional law again. March 1917 germany sank several american ships and even asked mexico to jion the war also. Finally the u.s declared war on germany. and then japan and italy declared war on the u.s between between 85,000 and 100,000 georgia m,en and women joined the war.

    When eugene talmadge gave speechs he took a sawed off oak stump, stood on it and gave speechs to the crowds. Talmadge who was a consecutive white supremacist did not like the new deal programs that president roosevelt had in place. He thought that they used too much tax money.

Thousands of women, men and children killed in consontration camps by gas, guns, fire, starvation, and health issues. When american troops and government found out about this they tryed to stop it as soon as possible. Hitler killed himslef and his wife on april 30 1945.

Then germany and italy declared war on the U.S.

The commitee was charged with gathering state residents regaurding desegregation and reporting back to the governor. They layed out elements that contributed to a political impass over desegregation in 1959 georgia.
