    Maynard Jackson served for 8 years as mayor. He was the first African American to be a mayor. He went for a third term, but when he had a major heart surgery he decided not to go for a fourth term.

    During the 1996 Olympic Games someone bombed the Olympic Park killing two people and injuring 111 people. The bomber was named Eric Rudolph.
