    Hernando de Soto came to Georgia in search of gold.He failed because he died and never found gold.The effects were he killed thousands of indians.He brung diseases with him that killed lots of indians.

    Charter of 1732
    King George the second granted a charter to Oglethorpes group as trustees.These people are banned from coming to Georgia catholics,blacks,liqour,dealers,and lawyers. Inthe charter the king said trustees could not own land,hold politicaloffice,or be given money for their work.Acharter is a legal document it grants priveledges,and rights. Trustees are people who hold responsibility on others.

    James Oglrthorpe wanted to to take the poor to the new world.Oglethorpewas an English man that was wealthy and well educated.He wanted to help the poor but there were more people than there were jobs.Many of the citzens well known could not pay their debt either.Laws for debtors were harsh and strict.If you could not pay you went to jail.Oglethorpe had laws passed and had thousands of prisoners let go free problem was there were no jobs when they got out.

    The Salzburgers were from Austria.They didnt like the catholic religion and so they protested.They were invited to Georgia by James Oglethorpe.They didnt want to be catholic therefore they protested about the religion.

    The univeristy was founded January 27,1785.It is ranked 20th overall public universities.It has 18 schools and colleges.The general assembly helped create this univerity.

    Was established in 1785.First state supported public university in the United states.Brought economy and wealth tothe area.Athens Ga the center of intellectual learning in Georgia.

    `The Constitutional Convention of 1787 was a meeting of all the States in Philadelphia to discuss changes that need to be made to the Articles of Confederatio.Representatives from each State were there and took part in writing the U.S. Constitution.Abraham Baldwin and William Few were Georgias representatives.

    Abraham Baldwin and William Few were the two Georgia reps. to sign the Constitution. Gerogia ratified the new constitution for selfish reasons. Wanted federal government to have power to unite the country.Needed federal government to help fight natives to move them west.

    The Cotton Gin was invented by Eli Whitney.It was a machine that seperated the cotton seed from the fiber.This is what made slavery so needed.After the invention it could produce up to fifthty ounds of clean cotton daily.

    They wanted to keep the balance equal between slave states and free states.There was eleven free states and eleven slave states.Maine and Missourri were in the border.Maine was a free state and Missourri was a slave state.This all lasted thirty years.

    Gold was found in North Georgia the summer of 1829.Benjamin Parks was said to have found it while deer hunting near Dahlonega.Over 10,000 miners flocked Georgia.Single event that sped up the removal act of the Cherokee indians.

    The act removed indians from U.S lands.Moved them from the land west of the Mississippian river.This was forved not voluntary.Resulted in the trail of tears.

    Missionaries could only live in Cherokee territory if they signed them allegience to the governor.Sam Worcester and ten others refused to sign.All eleven missionaries were sentenced to jail and four years of hard labor.Filed a suit with the Supreme Court.

    This was the forced removal of the Cherokee from Georgia.Many of the Cherokee died from diseases, and exposure to the cold.General Scott used federal troops seven thousand to roun up more than one thousand six hundred cherokee indians.The term 'Trail of Tears' means the trail where they cried.

    In 1834 Dred Scott and his owner left their slave state and went to a free state.Then from that free state to another.Scott and his owner arrived back home and Dred Scott got a whit person to file the case for him.Scott claimed he was free because he left and went to a free state.The Supreme court said he was not free because he was property.So they dropped the case and Dred Scott stayed a slave.

    The reason for all of this is because California wanted to be a state.Which upset the balance.The South got Utah and New Mexico and they decided on their own.They had a fugitive slave law.The north got California as a free state and slavery ends in D.C.

    This act was passed by the U.S congress.It was to help provide for the return of slaves.This law allowed for people to catch runaway slaves in the territory of the U.S.More than 10,000 were captured.

    This election happened on Tuesday November 6, 1860.This election was a very big election of 1860.This election was the outbreak of the civil war.The U.S had been divided because of slavery.

    It continued the work of the emmancipation proclomation.The ammendment was passed January 1865.It was submitted to the state for ratification.It was ratified in December 1865.

    It granted citizenship to the freedman.It forbade any state from denying anyone the equal protection of the law.Congress passed the ammendment in June 1866.Also ratified in July 1868.

    The 15th ammendment granted all male citizens to vote regardless the race.Or the previous condition.The ammendment was submitted to the states Febuary 1869.Also it was ratified in Febuary 1870.

    On June 7,1892 Homer Plessy went to jail for sittin in the white only train car.After Louisianna passed the seperate car acta black civil right group took it to court.When Homer Plessy sat in the white only train car he identified himself as black and went to jail but took the case all the way to the Supreme Court.

    Leo Frank was accused of murdering Mary Phagan.He and some other men were tried for her murder.They found Leo Frank guilty for her murder.In the middle of the night men came and took Leo Frank from the jail and hung him outside of Mary Phagans house.
