    UGA is chartered
    Abraham Baldwin proposed a charter for the University of Georgia, making Georgia the first state to have a chartered University. The school became one of the largest employers in Georgia, it positively impacted the economy, and brought a lot of attention to the state. (GA encyclopedia)

    Invention of the Cotton Gin
    Created by Eli Whitney, the cotton gin was created to remove the seeds from cotton faster and much easier than by hand. This invention caused the south to become the "Land of cotton", it also really helped the economy, and increased slavery.(Online Textbook pg. 12)

    Yazoo Land Fraud
    The General Assembly was bribed to sell 25 million acres for only $500,000, the buyers then sold the land for much more profit. To get out of this they were promised to get the natives out of the state, however from this we gained land which expanded the state and the treat of natives was removed. (GA encyclopedia)

    The goal of this time period was to really spread religion across Georgia, Baptist and Methodist were the fastest growing religions. Religion was spread by having huge tent revivals which got people excited for religion, the helped to reach the goal of expansion. (ga encyclopedia)
  • 1st Land Lottery

    Gave men, women, and orphans a chance to win land, but the land could be bad and the drawings were sometimes unfair. As people were aining land they got more into agriculture, this expanded slavery (which was wanted) and increased crop production. (GA encyclopedia)
  • Dahlonega Gold Rush

    The gold rush began when there were multiple claims tat people had found gold in the Dahlonega area. The population in North GA began to majorly grow, because people from all states were eager to find goal, this positively infected the states economy. (GA encyclopedia)
  • Worcester v. Georgia

    This was a court case tat determined the natives as their own nation and didn't have to follow the state laws (not wanted by the rest of the state). The case was good for the natives, but still a threat to the state, so their was a removal treaty signed and te threat of natives was removed from the state. (GA encyclopedia)

    Major growth in Railroads

    Business men in Athens decided tat we need a better way to transport cotton, so they chartered for the development of railroads. This helped create multiple cities and the railroads were a major success. (GA encyclopedia)
  • Trail of Tears

    This was the event that removed the Creek and the Cherokee (natives) because the state felt like they were a threat. After the removal the state experienced much growth and the land that the natives unwillingly gave up was used for agriculture. (GA encyclopedia)
