    The Kansas-Nebraska Act was an 1854 bill that followed “popular sovereignty”–allowing settlers of a territory to decide whether slavery would be allowed in that state and its borders. The bill altered the Missouri Compromise 36°30 Line with the boundary between slave and free territory. This caused so much North and South Tension which ultimately led to "Bleeding Kansas" in which Northerners and Southerners fought. Which in turn gave way to the Civil War.

    During the Election of 1860, key characters during this time were John C. Beckridge, Abraham Lincoln,and Stephen Douglas. Abraham Lincoln won the election and Black people and White Abolitionist were not eager for the election. The election of Abraham Lincoln contributes to the war because he was the guiding leader that led the North to beat the South in the War.
