Gandhi was born in 1896 in the town called Porbandar, neat Bombay. His family’s caste was among the Vaisya. -
The “Colored” Lawyer
In 1893 Gandhi was the first black or color lawyer admitted to the Supreme Court in South Africa. I South Africa Gandhi built and large practice. -
Congress
One year after Gandhi went to South Africa he founded the Natal Indian Congress. He did this to fight for India rights. -
The Start of a New Age
In the early 1900’s Gandhi began his peaceful revolution. In the same year that he began he peaceful revolution he said “I would rather go to jail or die before obeying an anti-Asian law. -
The New Leader
In 1919 Gandhi became the new leader in the new Indian National Congress. Then one year later he launched a noncooperation campaign against Britain. -
Salt
11 years after Gandhi become the leader of the Indian National Congress he protested the salt tax. The Indian people the followed Gandhi walked 200 miles (320-km) to the sea to get there own salt. Gandhi was put in jail again for the march. -
The Step Down
In the 15th year of Gandhi serving in the Congress he step down as the leader. But, he still remained as the actual leader. -
Freedom
One year before Gandhi died Indian won there independence. Gandhi was a great help to India winning there independence. -
The Death
On January 30, 1948, Gandhi was on his way to prayer in Delhi. He was killed by a mad Hindu because of his effects to reconcile Hindus and Muslims. -
The River
Nearly 50 years after Gandhi was killed his body was spread over the Ganges river. Gandhi’s great grandson Tushar Gandhi was the one to spread the ashes of his great grandfather.
